1.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 Butters (2844) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - JAN 26, 2012
Clear copper amber pour with ring of tan head. Sickly sweet acidic apple nose. Flavor is a bit off to me. A little nail polish. Big malty caramel underlying all the flaws. Sweet and toasted but really vegetal. Would not consider it ’clean smoothness’ as the description claims. Big carbonic bite. Maybe this would have been better fresh, but this bottle has something flawed with it.

Draft @ Bel Air location. Almost an orange color, very caramel smell to it. To the tase a bit "bready" and malty. Not my favorite october.

Appearance: Transparent light amber, minimal head, minimal lacing
Smell: Bready malts, caramel malts, lemon rind, hint of pumpernickel + fig
Taste: Medium/thin body, toffee, caramel, doughy bread, cranberry, stainless steel sweetness, english breakfast tea, orange + lemon citrus layering, grassiness on finish, baked turkey residual, crisp + slightly metallic mouthfeel, mild carbonation
Pairings: Bratwurst
Brew + pairing: Brew lets the flavors of food shine, keeps palate crisp

Not one of my favorite oktobers. This had a little bit of a high alcohol or weird fermented taste that i wasn’t used to or particularly enjoyed.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 jgb9348 (3371) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - NOV 3, 2011
Hazy copper coloured body with a bright orange, ruby and amber tint with a huge, way too big soapy, over-carbonated tan head. Aroma of yeast, malt, light fruits and a bit of soap. Medium-bodied; Assertive spicey flavour up front with a lot of earthy and pungent malt, some yeast notes, a little light hops and a strong sweet note at the very end. Aftertaste shows some herbal and lightly oaky/dry flavours, but the carbonation still roams strong in the finish. Overall, a decent marzen, a bit too malty and earthy, and definitely too overcarbonated, but not a horrible beer - nice to sample, since I hardly see these beers around. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from the Lebanese Taverna Market in Arlington, Virginia on 02-October-2011 for US$2.09 sampled at home in Washington on 03-November-2011.

Pours a nice looking copper, reddish highlights, good initial head fades. Initial hit of DMS fades quickly. Aroma is bready with a hint of molasses. Flavor is bread, toffee, hint of molasses. Balancing bitterness on finish. Not even remotely "clean," but not a bad tipple either.

caramel and kibble nose, somewhat meaty. Clear reddish copper, thin yellow head. Dried leaves and berries initially but quickly assumes a more vegetal quality. Less tha pristine, some qc issues, but I like what the brewer is striving for.
