A full bodied, dark golden ale with a thick, off-white head, enticing citrus aroma and unique swirl of tropical fruit esters produced in fermentation. Backed by a precise balance of strong malt presence and biting hop bitterness, this creamy blend of rich flavors leads to a smooth, hoppy finish, and the torment of knowing that when this bottle is empty, you will long to… FEEL OUR PAIN

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy apricot color with a large fluffy orange-white head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was sweet and tangy sugar and tropical fruit. The flavor was sweet, tangy yet bitte with honey, tropical fruits and perfume. Long bitter tropical fruit and perfume finish. Fairly boozy. Moderately full bodied. Tasty.

Poured from bottle into a snifter Appearance – The beer pours a hazy golden orange color with a tiny fizzy foam head. The head fades instantly leaving a thin foam ring on the surface of the brew/glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is big of sweet tropical fruits mixed with a nice level of a caramel and toffee. The tropical fruits are heaviest of a tangerine smell, but are mixed with some other aromas of pineapple and mango. Some other aromas of a light wheat bread and a moderately strong candied sugar smell mix rather nicely with the other sweeter aromas of the brew. A very light woody and herbal smell are there as well, rounding out the aroma nicely. Taste – The taste begins with a bready and thicker flavor mixed with some flavors of a tropical fruit nature that was detected in the nose. These remain rather constant throughout the taste and create a base for the brew. While there are some tropical fruits upfront, they are lighter then would have been expected from the nose. Along with the fruity flavors some other sweeter tastes are present upfront, with some honey and candied sugar. These two tastes fade as the flavor advances however, leaving a slightly drier (but by no means very dry) flavor on the tongue. As the honey and sugar fade, some grassy and herbal tastes come to the tongue. As these come, a boozy flavor develops, bringing with it a bit of a woody taste. In the end, citrus flavors of orange peel and some tangerine really ramp it up, and mix with the rest of flavors to leave a rather thick, slightly bitter-sweet citrusy, and wheaty boozed flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker and more syrupy side with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. Both are rather appropriate for the big, boozy, wheaty, and sweet flavors of the brew all while accentuating nicely the woody and lighter herbal and grassy hop flavor;, allowing them to stand out in a the forest of bigger flavors. Overall – The flavors reminded me somewhat of a grand cru, but without the yeasty flavors and with a bit more of a boozy flavor. This was a rather interesting warming brew, and while I would not come back to it again and again, it is worth a try and possibly a time to time revisiting.

Poured as taster at local shop. Lots of esters and citrus on the nose. It’s got that typical oily, thick mouthfeel of a barley wine, but definitely in the American style with more hops present than a traditional British barley wine. Pours dark gold with a somewhat off-white head.

Hazy, muddy tan color, okay, off-white head. Sweet honeyed wheat nose, pungent with peach alcohol and brimming with fruitiness. Boozy, peachy full-bodied wheat beer with plenty of alcohol buzz and a touch of bitterness to balance out the sweet fruitiness. This one packs a punch, but it’s well-suited for the winter months. Not bad at all.

Pours filtered with a bronze golden hue. Finger width of bone white head. Aromas of cereal grains and strawberry Crunchberries. Full bodied with a honey sweet and estery flavor. Good dose of alcohol and rather astringent. Dark fruity flavors mixed with subtle citrus notes and pitted fruit. As it warms the alcohol really shines

Bottle bought about a year or so ago. I dunno. Pours a deep amber/gold with a slight white head. Big fruity, tropical aroma. Taste is sticky sweet, citrus, yeasty. Still a nice hops presence still. Nice booze burn.

Bottle: Poured a deep golden color ale with a small foamy head with average retention and light lacing. Aroma of light residual sugar notes with some caramelized malt notes. Taste is also dominated by dry caramelized malt with some light grainy notes and a dry finish. Body is slighter thinner then average with average carbonation and no apparent alcohol. I thought this was not as warm as most wheat wine I’ve taste before and probably a tad more dry then I was expecting.

On tap 5 oz. sample at DuClaw in Bowie, MD. Hazy, golden straw color with an off-white head and very good lacing. Aroma of lemon, wheat, bread, sweet malt, honey, orange, herbs and the clove-like spice that shows up in many beers from this brewpub's Bowie location. Taste of citrus, chili peppers, orange, honey, wheat, sweet malt. Medium body and high/medium carbonization. The bottled version I had previously was a great beer, with no hot pepper and not overly sweet. I can't say the same about this brewpub version. It's basically sweet, wheaty and hot. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
