3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 muzzlehatch (4425) - Burlington, USA - MAY 3, 2006
Nice-sized draught sample at the Bel Air location. Dark amber with a small touch of lasting head....faint nose offers traces of dry oregano, woody hops and dusty dried caramel....nice sweet, full but never cloying mouthfeel, caramel and light toasted malts, wet loamy soil and minerals (lime, chalk), biscuity and drier as it warms with reminiscences of sugar cookies at hand....low carbonation. Very much above average for style, if only the nose were more expressive....

I was bored by this one...looks nice and red with a little head but there’s just not much flavor to it. Flat malt, a tiny, tiny bit of hops, that’s it. Body has little character and it almost tastes spoiled the flavor is so flat. Bleh

Not a big fan of red ales but I know I’ve had better than this. Tastes like a weak tea drink, not great.

Yawn! Pours amber with a big white head that rapidly dissipates. Not a lot on the nose. The taste has a bit of biscuit to it. Meh!

Reviewed from notes.
Pours a moderate amber color with a light tan head. The nose brings some lightly-toasted malt and biscuits as well as light pine and citrus hops. A bit of an earthy character there as well. Taste is light malt with a bit of hops. Slightly bitter and dry feel with a good body. Drinks pretty well and is another well-made beer from DuClaw.

On tap at Duclaw, Bowie on 14 July 2006. Quite handsome - clear, bright, mid coppery-red in colour. Hint of smoky malt in the aroma. Some sweetish caramel in the flavour. Pretty unremarkable on the palate until a metallic tang kicks in at the finish. Not really my thing.
