COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This golden Belgian ale will mystify you with its medium body, its subtle malt and hop profiles, and its complex blend of spices. Fruit flavors, produced by a special strain of Belgian yeast, combine with Belgian candied sugar, chamomile, grains of paradise, and cardamom to create an unfiltered ale so intriguing, you’ll never want to get to the bottom of the mystery ... or your glass.

Tap at BWI. Hazy dark golden color, off white head, moderate lacing. Aroma of orange peel and coriander. Taste is bitter orange and light spice. OK.

They’re out of Sawtooth and this is the temporary replacement. Sawtooth is better. Mysterium seems to be a traditional ale brewed with Belgian yeast and spiced with coriander, but as served on tap, it doesn’t show the complexity that would surface after aging foe the style. Taste is between an abby dubble and a belgo. A bit hoppy on finish but not much else going on. Bready and bittering hop aroma. Light mouthfeel and abrupt finish. Taste is balanced and it drinks easy. Just lacks complexity.

Poured a clear golden color with a small white head. Lots of spice and floral notes in the aroma. Some oranges and yeast too. Taste is also quite spiced with some coriander and pepper. Some candi sugars. Pretty sweet overall. Not bad!

Golden color. Tasted like dish soap! Might have been some dish soap in my glass. Spiced aromas. Not great!

On tap 4 oz. sample at Maryland Craft Beer Festival 2012. Clear, amber gold with small white head and fair lacing. Aroma was floral and spicy with cardamom, bready malt and yeast Taste of floral hops, cardamom, spice & yeast. Some sweetness. Medium/light body and carbonation. I agree with the first part of DuClaw's description--I am indeed mystified. I'm mystified at why there isn't more flavor, aroma and body in what they describe as a Belgian ale. It's not that the beer is bad; it just suffers from excessive moderation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Reviewed from notes. Pours a golden color with a white head. The nose brings forward some floral character and a bit of light spicing. The taste is pretty generic with some floral character and a bit of pepper and spice. The feel is a bit of spice as well. Not overspiced, but nothing really come together in the end. 20100526 tap at Bel Air. Aroma is herb tea, floral, celery, lemon plus some vanilla and melon. Heavily effy with an oily feel coating and mild yeast spice trying, failing to dry it out. Not sweet, that’s a plus, but some grainy flavors linger and a lemon pudding something or other that reminded me of Sam Adams summer ale (which I hate). Kind of a bummer because I thought I recalled really digging this one last year and was surprised actually that I hadn’t aready rated it.

Mysterium on Orange Peel. Stuff sucked so I figured it didn’t really deserve a separate listings so putting it here.

Bland watery and boring with wet grainy malt and saggy, loose hops. Bleh.

Tap at MASHOUT 09. Pours a clear medium bright copper with a decent lasting white head. Aroma is chamomile- strong spices, peppery- cardamon is a bit harsh with more belgian phenols that amplify all the added spice- light doughy more prickly malt and candi sugar. Flavor is yeasty, lemon chamomile dominates again, light mint, sage, lemonzest- coriander like- orange prickly sweet pale malts- zesty spicy and prickly finish.
