COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gourmet chocolate raspberry coffee is used in the brewing process to achieve this unique flavor and aroma. With a rich dark color this medium bodied stout finishes fairly dry with subtle hints of chocolate, coffee and raspberry flavors.

22 oz bottle. Dark purple brown with some suds. Nose is raspberry, chocolate and coffee, as advertised. Medium light with dull carb; kind of watery but i guess as expected from a 4.6% stout. Taste offers the same mix with the coffee not too bitter and the chocolate not too sweet. Raspberry peeking in and out adds a tart contrast. A fine session brew at a reasonable price.

From my growler I brought home. Pours a deep dark brown with ruby highlights when held in the light. Small tan head. Aroma is roasty chocolate, coffee, and raspberries. Taste is sweet raspberries, chocolate and slight bitter coffee metallic finish. It has a moderate finish. Creamy mouthfeel, could benefit from not being so thin though. I really enjoy this beer. Interesting take on the style but this definitely tasted better directly at DuClaw.

20110209 Tap at Bel Air. Black and mostly opaque with thin but lasting tan head of medium foam. Aroma is primarily roasty and mineral with some metallic notes. As it warms a candy-like raspberry aroma emerges and eventually dominates. Body is medium-light with only a subtle roasted bitterness and no noticeable hops. Basic and drinkable, but nothing I craved enough for a second glass. If they wanted to add a chocolate beer to the lineup, I wish it had been a re-release of that chocolate porter (X-1).

On tap at release at the Bel Air location. Poured very dark black with a half a finger width tan head. Raspberries and chocolate malts with some coffee are what you breath in the entire pint. Besides the raspberries, chocolate and a sweet taste. Waited a while for this beer, probably a one time buy and will still to the non flavored stouts.

Poured black with a thin tan head. Aroma is mostly of raspberries and chocolate malts with some coffee. Taste is mainly of raspberries as well. Other flavors included milk chocolate, toasted malts, and sugar. The berry flavor mixed with the chocolate malts to form an interesting sweet toasted taste in the finish. Not the worst thing I’ve had, but I kinda wish they hadn’t turned this stout into a fruit beer with raspberry flavoring.

Aroma is of raspberries. Black color. Taste is very raspberry like. Some dry coffee flavors as well. A little too much raspberries for me.

UPDATED: APR 28, 2011 Tap at Arundel Mills in Mar 2008: Pours an opaque black with dark brown edges and a frothy creamy dark tan head. Aroma of sweet, smoky dark malts and a touch of milk chocolate and grain. Body starts lightly caramely sweet, quickly drying out before an earthy smoky lingering finish. I didn’t taste much raspberry flavor, but pretty good nonetheless.

22oz bottle sampled on 4/28/11: Pours a barely transparent deep mahogany with ruby hues and a thin, wispy-lacing beige head. Has a sweet light caramel and fruity raspberry nose with some dark chocolate and roasty coffee. Starts with average fullness and light malty sweetness with good sugary raspberry sweetness and a smooth roasted malty finish. An enjoyable and complex, yet sessionable.

Draft. Brown black color. Artificial but pleasant raspberry-chocolate aroma. Smooth body, with a nice tart balance. Easy drinking with some mild roastiness. Cloying sticky sweet raspberry aftertaste. OK.
