Got in trade thanks to WanderinCelt. Another great bourbon barrel stout. Nice dark pull. Terrific aroma, nice and boozy. Vanilla stands out most in taste and the aroma.

Pitch black with a cocoa tan head. Huge vanilla and sweet roast coffee in the aroma. Taste is a little bitter with smooth vanilla and big coconut flavors. Balanced but has real depth. Well done.

Bottle from Jim. A: Light less black with a thin mocha head. Lacing. N: Caramel, bourbon, vanilla extract, coconut, chocolate, and some espresso. T: Quite sweet with mild bitterness. M: Slick and oily. Heavy body. O: A solid BACK RIS. Soft and sweet, reminiscent of Bourbon County Stout.

This one poured a dark dark brown with a beige head. Aroma was of bourbon, milk chocolate, and mildly roasted barley. Flavor was similar, very nice barrel integration and tasty stout.

Very good bourbon aged imperial. Pours black with little head. This beer starts out with a slightly sweet taste on the palate, followed by a smoky roasted malt flavor. Finished well, but stayed on the sweet side for me.

Sampled at AC Beerfest (2014). Poured pitch black with a creamy dark tan head. Aroma is very bourbon forward, with notes of wet oak, chocolate, and sweet caramel. Taste mimics the nose with strong bourbon up front, followed by oak, roasted malt, chocolate, and in the finish lots of sweet caramel. Really solid.

22. Thanks, d! Pours jet black with a loose creamy dark tan head. Big chocolate and coffee nose. Creamy thick body with soft carb. Chocolate and coffee mid palate, dimensional and harmonious with nice balance. Barrel character is soft. Long sweet finish.

22 oz bottle into a tulip. A: Pours a very dark brown color. The khaki-colored head, while short at less than a finger high, has pretty decent retention and good creaminess. Minimal lacing is left behind. S: Wow, this smells great. The first whiffs bring a ton of chocolate, only to develop stronger notes of bourbon, cream, and vanilla when allowed to open up. When it opens up even further, it gains a touch of dark fruits, along with some banana. I dont even miss the low oak presence, because this has a fantastic and complex dessert-y aroma. T: Okay, NOW the oak is coming through strongly on the opening flavors. This is ridiculously bourbon-forward, almost to the point of excess. The first few sips really lack balance, but it becomes more harmonious as it warms up. Some pleasant chocolate and vanilla characteristics develop near the finish, before the alcohol bite envelop said finish strongly. On the plus side, the booze helps to give this some palpable nuance between its roast, chocolate, cream, and vanilla flavors. I wish it was slightly sweeter (to cover the alcohol better), but thanks to its complexity, I am warming up to this the more I sip. M: It has a pair of characteristics I like in an imperial stout: its initially creamy, yet dries nicely on the finish. I also like how the barrels didnt overly thin the body out. There is a harsh tannic bite post-swallow that could be cut down some, though. Carbonation is slightly high for the style, which means its still rather low. O: If the rest of the beer had lived up to the aroma, it could have been a local, readily available Parabola killer. Still, there is more than a passing resemblance to the Firestone Walker stalwart - it brings both the bourbon and the stout nicely, its complex, but its also rather abrasive. Honestly, in a blind taste test, Id have trouble telling the two apart. Id definitely buy another bottle of this to age a year.

From notes, consumed on 5/26/13. Bottle (2012, Barrel 15) poured into a Belgian snifter. Pours jet black with half a finger of tan head. Head fades quickly, good lacing. Aromas of big bourbon and dark fruit, coconut, vanilla, dark chocolate. Tasting notes of dark fruit, dark chocolate, bourbon, oak, vanilla, sweet booze. Medium-full body with a semi-dry warm finish.
