22 oz. brown bomber bottle. Barrel 1 of 15. Poured out a deep opaque black. No brown or red highlights whatsoever. Thin tan head on top. Aromas are of licorice, burnt sugar, bourbon barrels, vanilla beans. Flavors are the same as the aromas. Alcohol is well hidden, but sneaks up on you. Rich, chewy mouthfeel. Decent BBIS overall. 2012 batch.

22 oz. bottle via trade. Pours dark brown to black with a small fine beige head. The aroma had some initial sweetness before showcasing dark fruits, chocolate, bourbon with notes of cherry and vanilla, brown sugar and molasses. The flavor has roasted malts, chocolate, bourbon, cherry, vanilla, wood, leather and molasses. Very smooth, medium plus body.

Poured into a perfect pint. Into the barrel on 3/11/2011 and out of the barrel on 9/19/2011. Barrel #19 of 20. 3.5 A: Black color. A little over one finger of light brown, frothy/creamy head. Retention is about what youíd expect from a beer this big and just a tiny ring of lacing is left. 4.0 S: Really wonderful nose on this. The barrel aging is done to perfection. Smooth leathery bourbon with mineral, apple, wood dust, and cantelope aromas. Underneath there is a supple roastiness, chocolate, molasses, toffee, caramel, and a hearty neutral malt sweetness. If you dig even deeper, you may find a note or two of coffee. Sweet overall, but with good balance. 3.5 T: The taste is an amplification of the nose. This is a sticky, sweet stout. Itís a bit cloying for sure. Lots of toffee, molasses, and caramel. Roastiness, chocolate, coffee are underneath all that. Big neutral sweetness. A good bit of leathery bourbon with vanilla, oak, apple, and nondescript light fruitiness. Itís a tasty beer, but itís too sweet to drink a whole bomber of (which I plan to do). 3.5 M: Heavy body. I like heavy bodies on imperials, but the problem is that itís also too chewy, which results from the sugar overload. It causes some moderate amylase clumping in the back of the mouth. Otherwise, itíd have a good creaminess. 3.5 D: Not a terrible beer, but it has the sweetness of BT without the crazy booziness, so Iíd bet that many out there would like this. Bottle. Poured a black color with an average frothy light brown head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted dark chocolate aroma. Medium to heavy toasted dark malt, bourbon wood flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a interesting beer.

Sample from bottle. Black color, good light brown head, dots of lace. Nice bourbon / chocolate nose. Very nice bourbon, dark chocolate syrup, and vanilla aroma. Chocolate brownie. Big body, full and thick. Lighter carbonation, some warmth, little bitter. Light sticky in the finish. This is nice.

Bottle to oversized tulip (thanks to ksurkin for this one). Looks decent; black with nice lacing. Smells okay; VERY boozy (but cheap booze). Taste and mouthfeel are very pedestrian - itís hot and boozy, and Iím curious to know what bottom-feeder in the bourbon market they got their barrels from. Overall, an okay beer, but itís a good thing itís a limited release...because it would collect dust on shelves if it werenít.

Aroma- massive bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, oak Appearance- black with a khaki colored crescent head Taste- bourbon upfront followed by slight roasted notes, vanilla, oak, some coffee Palate- medium-body, decent mouthfeel Overall- If this beer was dialed back on the bourbon a little and had more coffee and chocolate, this would be a pretty special beer. That being said it was a little rough.
