COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Serum is our version of a Double(Imperial) India Pale Ale. It is aggressively hopped at several stages of the brewing process including a dry hopping that takes place little by little over a 2 week period. With an OG close to 19Plato, this beer is big and hoppy, yet has a strong malt backbone that keeps the huge hop bitterness from being overbearing. Available in VERY limited quantities and only at our pub locations.

Draft, Bowie. Medium reddish-amber color; off-white head which coats the inside of the glass as it heads south. Very aromatic: floral and citrus, dank hoppiness; hints of candy sugar behind it. Nice dank, chewy hoppiness: some grapefruit and oranges, balanced by maple syrup and candy sugar malt. Not harshly bitter at all. Long, sweet hop finish.

Wow! Very strong bite but very drinkable at the same time. This means I had too much for my own good. Took home a growler and it snuck up on me again. Damn! If you ever have the chance to sample this premium, you must! I canít wait until next year!!!

Sample courtesy of weeare138. Poured a deep orange color with a very small sized head. Aromas of citrus, pine and some caramel. Tastes of pine, citrus, and caramel (just like the aromas). Medium alcohol finish. Decent balance.

Thanks to weeare138 for this hand bottled sample. Pours a translucent golden amber with a small off white head. Aroma of various citrus, pine, Hawaiin Punch, caramel and some alcohol. Flavor of orange, pine, caramel and a slight bitterness.

Thanks to weeare138. Clear, deep golden body with a metallic-orange tinge, some noticeable viscosity, and a scattering, soapy white head. Intense tropical fruit and orange citrus aroma with a lightly sweet honey-like malt underbelly plus intoxicating alcohol fumes. Flavor has a hop character like bitter orange peels with nice, assertive bitterness, but this beer seems a little on the hot side with some fusel alcohols. Palatable residual carbs on the tongue. Good, but might have difficulty passing health inspections.

UPDATED: OCT 6, 2011 Draft at DuClaw Fells Point. Rusty amber amber body with a small white head. Nose is hoppy but sweet with lots of fruit notes, caramel, sweet malts, and citrus. Taste is hoppy, but not over the top bitter, with citrus fruits and some melon/pineapple with sweet malts, and caramel. Body is smooth and slick with mild carbonation feel and a lighter than expected lingering bitterness. Finishes sweet with more hops, light citrus, caramel and sweet malts. Not the hop bomb I expected and I admit I was a tad disappointed.

RE-RATE Bottle. Luscious copper pour with a foamy tan head. Resinous and spicy hops come through as does soft citrus, big caramel and chewy malt notes. Hint of brown sugar as well. Taste is big caramel, sweet, sticky malt, pine resins, soft citrus and spicy hops. Body is medium with a creamy, bubbly carbonation. Oily in spots as well. Chewy, too. Ends with more big caramel, chewy malt, hops resins, soft pine and citrus and spicy hops. Better than I recall. Score goes up a bit from 3.2 to 3.4. The 9% ABV is nowhere to be found. Would be very sessionable, otherwise.

Thanks to witbier for picking me up a growler of this from the Bel Air location... Appears a glowing orange amber with a 1 inch white head that slowly fades out. Tons of scattered webbed lace is left around my tulip glass. Smell is of flowery, orange citrus, along with some sugary candy, and a piney, wood-like hop presence with an undertone of caramel. Smells almost like an open bag of fresh Nugget hops next to some rich, Caramunich malt. Taste is of the same sugary brewed aromas with a decent mix of sugar and bitter. Mouthfeel is sugary, rich, with a bitterness thatís there very much so in the begginning of the glass but is kicked in the ass by the sugar content as it warms towards the bottem of the glass. Medium bodied and yummy. I really enjoyed this. Iím not sure why all the lack of love for it but this í06 version is weighing in at 9% and I can barely notice it. I split this growler off into seperate bottles but I wish I had more b/c Iíd drink an entire growler of this on any given night.

12 oz glass on draught at the Hanover, MD (Arundel Mills Mall) location. Pours to a bright, light orange color, with a white head, and a lively carbonation. The nose is zesty with aromas of grapefruit, and lemon peel. The palate is firm, and slightly slick, with good pale malt flavors, paired with light hints of grapefruit hop flavor. This beer finishes with more good pale malt flavor, then ends with some nice grapfruit/lemon peel bitterness, and slight alcohol heat. A decent beer, but as an Imperial IPA, pretty average.

Special Summer Release. On tap from Bowie, and from a growler later on. Pours out a deep orange color, with a fast fading tan colored head. Aromas right off the bat are of Amarillo & Simcoe hops. Some caramel & burnt sugar aromas also. Flavors are of burnt sugars, sweet malts, some toffee, slight apricot from the hops, and a slight alcohol burn. Medium to rich mouthfeel. Coats the tongue well. Slick, slightly oily from the hops. Warming alcohol hits your gut quickly. Be careful, this beer will definitely sneak up on you. Goes down too easily. Decent offering from Duclaw.

Pours a medium amber/deep orange with a good sticky off white head. Lots of citrus and piny hops in the aroma with a nice sweet crystal malt background. Flavor is citrusy- orange, lemon, pine, some grapefruit and perhaps some mango and apricot in there as well. Big bitter bite in the end.
