3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap at BWI, courtesy of steptin - thanks! Cloudy deep golden brown, tan head, massive lacing. Aroma of tall grass and straw. Taste is wet grass, citrus/lime. Good balance. Not overly exciting, but one of this brewery’s better offerings.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Brown-tinged orange. Bursting citric hops (centennial?) evoke wood, grapefruit and lemon. Fat, chewy flavours simultaneously coat your tongue with chocolate malts and citric hops. Smooth...with caramel overtones. A little drippy in terms of hopping, which is the only real complaint. Otherwise quite well-made.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
(RBSG2003): Clear copper with minimal off-white head. Aroma is sweet and sticky, really hoppy -- more barleywinish than IPA. Taste is grapefruit hoppy, some herbal hoppy too, and not enough malts for balance. Quite full-bodied.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: APR 3, 2004 Ok, I had to up my rating. Just tried another bottle after being cellared for one year. The hops are still there, but much more mellowed... less biting. Great, caramelly, malt backbone. World class beer!...
Crystal clear, burnt orange/amber hue. Large, creamy, Khaki head with very good lacing.
The aroma is very hoppy with notes of pepper, grapefruit and pine.
The flavor? POW! Right in the kisser!
Huge hops! Bitter, peppery and citrusy. Not quite what I expected out of an Imperial IPA, but very good nonetheless.
Full-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and pillow-soft carbonation.
Lengthy, lightly bitter, dry finish. Very nice brew! Pulls up just short of being world-class! Thanks, Jim!
