3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAR 7, 2014 Poured as a taster - what a crazy beer! There are aromas of roasted peanut butter, slight sweetness, some chocolate and malt. The tastes are peanut right up front, more coffee than chocolate notes on the tongue. I can only imagine delicious ice cream floats with this.
Notes from bottle tasting. Pours a rich dark brown, light tan head, leaves moderate lacing on glass. Still a ton of roasted peanuts on the nose. There are some notes of chocolate on the nose, but it is predominantly peanut. Taste is as above. I think there is a bit more chcoloate than coffee now from bottle pour.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured into a shaker showing big thick black with lightly translucent rims and a finger of latte colored foam.
The nose shows just as it says - alot of milk chocolate and peanut butter.
The palate is moderately carbonated and medium bodied. A bit heavy for a porter a little close to a basic stout. Flavors of peanut butter lay in the background but nice roasted malt notes throughout take center stage. The finish shows the same roasted malts with a hint of chocolate. Overall, pretty well done.

Bottle. Strong peanut butter, chocolate, malt, and straw aroma - like a Nutty Buddy bar. Dark brown with large tan head. Lightly sweet peanut butter, chocolate malt, and moderately bitter herbal hay flavor. Nice balance.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Ruby-black with a frothy tan head.
Peanut and shell aroma.
Dry-roasted, burned peanut , chocolate malt flavour.
Unexpected taste..not sweet at all..........a nice husky bitter, dry and ashy.
More roast peanut than peanut butter.
Very enjoyable...nicely different than most peanut-oriented beers.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle pour - near black with flecks of red when held to a light - minimal tan head. Aroma is interesting - peanut butter is very obvious, dark malts, extremely roasty (burnt malt notes), but all with an underlying sweetness with some coffee and chocolate...one moment Iím thinking this is really cool and the next Iím a bit turned off by things - odd. Flavor hits up front with some peanut butter, sweet malts, then turns quickly to bitter with burnt sugars and malts. Coffee plays in the background...this one came out a lot more bitter than I was anticipating, and not in a good way. Odd, slightly sour finish plays with my head a bit too. Mouthfeel is a bit on the thin side for something this roasted. Quite meh on this one - Iím usually a bit high on my ratings, but Iíll bring down there average here a bit...

I couldnít get a hold of the Karl Strauss Peanut Butter Porter but my buddy Beercation hooked me up with this wonderful consolation prize:
DuClaw Sweet Baby Jesus! Chocolate Peanut Butter Potter 6.2%
Wow, the aroma on this is great - roasty nutty chocolate, the image in my mind is of toasted nuts covered inn luscious chocolate. Awesome.
Medium-full bodied with a raspy carbonation. The taste is nutty, roasty, bitter chocolate.
This is really really nice stuff though the aroma kicks the flavors ass though both are great. Umm, nutty chocolate goodness...
