3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 glennmastrange (1884) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - MAR 15, 2013
Tap. Moderate malt and hop notes of toasted grain and pine, Light dough for the yeast, with hints of pepper and wood. Head is average size, frothy, slightly off-white with some slippery lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is clear dark brown. Flavor starts moderately acidic and finishes lightly acidic and moderately to heavily bitter. Palate is medium, watery with a lively carbonation. Nice balance between the hops and malt in this tasty American Black Lager.

A dark brown lager with a thin dark brown head. In aroma, sweet chocolate with light peaty notes, grassy, light rye notes, interesting. In mouth, a grassy hopped up coffee grind with light smokeyness, citrus hops, nice.

Growler sent from Hopscotch, thanks Eric. Poured a dark black color with aromas of roast, light hops, and some light chocolate. Flavors are the same but witha burnt coffee aftertaste, lots of bitterness. I am no too big on bitterness, if you are this beer is for you.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 hopscotch (8212) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JAN 18, 2013
UPDATED: JAN 19, 2013 Draft... Murky dark-brown lager with a small, creamy, off-white head. Fantastic retention. The nose offers dank, hempen hops with undercurrents of brownies and deeply roasted grains. Full-bodied with a whole-milk mouthfeel and fizzy carbonation. The flavor is burnt and bitter with a slight, but clear, bong water aspect. Lengthy, bitter, scorched finish.

I live in South Florida and this beer is local for me. Pours a semi-dark color with a small head. The aroma is relatively mild with mostly hops and some malt. Taste is fairly hoppy with no serious overtones of other flavors. Not a bad beer but certainly not my top 10 black lagers.
