3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 mcberko (2196) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 7, 2011
500mL bottle, pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is very roasted and sweet, with loads of sweet chocolate malt, almost a root beer quality, a hint of sweet dark fruits and roasted notes. Flavour is also both sweet and roasted, with lots of sweetened dark chocolate, roasted espresso and roasted malts, and a noticeable bitter hop presence that lingers subtly. Carbonation is mostly flat, detracting a little from the mouthfeel. A little too sweet, but nonetheless, enjoyable.

A: The beer pours a dark brown color with a very small off-white head.
S: Roasted malt, char, and coffee aromas give this one a strong aroma right from the start. There is a light acidity along with some mild nuttiness. A bit of vanilla and toffee, perhaps some molasses.
T: Oh man. Pure sugar followed by intense char. Prune juice and burnt wood with lots of roasted malt and a bit of sawdust. Sugary but slightly acidic, a lot of roast, a bit of molasses, and a mild coffee flavor.
M: Medium bodied, but sort of watery. Minimal carbonation to go with it.
O: This was not good. The aroma wasn’t too bad, but the flavor is just rough.
3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 hopscotch (7288) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - AUG 31, 2011
Bottle… Pours dark brown with a small, creamy, off-white head. The real aromatic standouts are fudge and a dumpster fire’s worth of smoke - no, I’m not saying it smells like burning trash. Full-bodied and milky with soft carbonation. The flavor is chocolaty, fairly bitter and a touch acrid, but well-balanced overall. Finishes chocolaty, mildly bitter and roasty. Bottle courtesy of 50belair!
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Vignale (783) - Malmö, SWEDEN - AUG 23, 2011

Bottle. Dark brown pour with a tan head. Fudge and smoke aromas. All kinds of black malt, smoke, nuts, and earthy flavors...
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Beerlando (3276) - Orlando, Florida, USA - AUG 15, 2011
UPDATED: AUG 16, 2011 500ml bttle. Pours a clear dark chestnut color with a small, fading head of dark khaki foam. Micro-spot lacing marks the glass, but mostly rejoins the body after some time. The nose is quite nice, showing plenty of dark roast, sweetened coffee, anise, licorice, and scorched caramel. It’s definitely hoppy as well, as some floral citrus notes show their face. The flavor sports a general dark fruitiness that works with the burnt caramel sweetness to counter-balance a healthy dose of biting, citrusy hops. Coffee and barley roast are dark and intense, imparting a dryness on the back end. The palate is fairly light in carbonation, initially a bit slick but moving towards dry and slightly alcoholic on the finish. Overall, it’s a nice, intensely roasted and hopped "semi-imperial" porter. Good brew.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Drake (4803) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - AUG 7, 2011
500 mL bottle from State Line Liquors, opened 7/27/11. Pours a dark brown color. A vigorous pour was needed to elicit a thin tan head. That being said it sticks around a while. Aroma of rich coffee, roasted malts, some nutty notes. The taste is roasted malts, nutty notes, coffee, a tart lactic note. Medium bodied. Decent beer.
