Rastacouere (6123) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 31, 2007
Draught, mackinlay’s Inn. Deep veiled copper with mysterious climbing head almost looking like a nitro muchroom. A pure darker meringue. Very rich nose displays, at its best, the Dugges malt traits that I dig immensely. Extreme fruitiness, not limited to hop aromas. The Duggest typical strawberry notes is all over, giving it a dessert feel, reddish berries abound atop of tropical notes, mostly litchee, lime, papaya.. melon.. A tartish vinous earthiness joins in to complexify this already bubble gummy, complex dessert baked in caramel sauce. Medium to thick body supports those flavors like a champion. Creamy and easy going palate. Oh yeah, did you know this was an IPA? Over the already pleasant foundations previously described, you need to add a flowery perfume emanating from this jolly snifter. Wonderful foresty hints, coniferous, sappy and most of all floral, earthy with pomegranate and blood oranges nuances. Soft support carbonation. A bloody good beer that. It reminds me of one of my favorite IPAs ever, that is the one that Stoudts used to bottle-condition in 765mL bottles. Perhaps even maltier that Dugges.. Atypical. A wonderful sipper, very close to a barley wine, but the hops are rocking in there.

Svesse (6044) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - MAR 13, 2007
(Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm) Dark amber/ruby colour with almost no head, but still with some lacing. Hoppy nose with spruce needles, resin , grapefruit, fresh hops and, as stated in the commercial description, summer meadows. Fruity, hoppy taste with orange peel, grapefruit, flowers and prunes. Slightly sweet taste, the hops tend to dominate the nose more than the taste. Very nice and hoppy beer, leaning in the american IPA tradition.

UPDATED: SEP 16, 2007 Draught at The Rover, Göteborg, Sweden. Amber clear color with medium but very thick, almost stout-like, head. Wonderful aroma full of floral and perfumy hops, backed up by a tropiclal fruit profile with peach and apricot. Very smooth mouthfeel. Flavour balances malt sweetness well with a massive yet not overwhelming hop bitterness.

UPDATED: FEB 1, 2007 Draught at Glenfiddich Warehouse 68, Stockholm. Deep amber with rich creamy head. Strong hop aroma of grapefruit and lychee. Sweet and dense with clean caramely malt character and loads of perfumy lychee-like hops. Lightly roasty with lingering bitter finish. Surprisingly balanced. Extremely American style with it’s massive hop content and clean mouhfeel. A 1.9xIPA?
