Theydon_Bois (9131) - The ’Sham, Surrey, ENGLAND - MAY 26, 2014
Bottle at the Black (IPA) Friday tasting, from an IP trade with Nisse666 - thanks Thomas, 09/05/14. Black with a moderate tan covering that thins to spotting/edgework. Nose is bitter roast, pine, tropicana, dark berry fruits. Taste comprises light roast, burnt tones, bitter grapefruit, pine, scorched earth. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with semi aggressive hop bitterness. Decent enough CDA.

Flaske: Sortbrun diset øl med et flot skumhoved. Duft af citrus humle og en smule brændt malt. Heldigvis går den ikke igen i smagen som fungerer overraskende godt for en sort ipa. Meget fin mundfylde og yderst drikbar.

Bottle from one of the Gothenburg Systembolaget’s. Poured a clear dark brown with a broken light tan head. The aroma is grassy hop. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with a grassy spice hop pepper palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Leighton 10K tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to CDA hound Colin. Hazy dark brown beer, tidy pale tan head. Smooth palate, light, airy and dry. Very fine carbonation. Mild dark malts. Nice plummy fruits in the mid. Back end is spicy pine hops. Turns a little sweeter before the light finish. Nice one.

tfredvik (1150) - Oslo, NORWAY - MAY 10, 2014
Pours a clear, close to black body with a rather small, long-lived, light-brown head that laces the glass well. Strong aroma that has a very good malt/hop balance. Roasted notes, chocolate, coffee, citrus, pine and fruits with some tropicality in the back. Strong flavour of chocolate, bitter coffee, fruits, pine, resin and a sharp, grassy, resinous, heavy bitter, long-lasting finish. Moderate to light sweet initial taste. Medium plus body, dry and smooth texture, moderate carbonation. A good BIPA, but far from the best.
[33 cl bottle, enjoyed 6 months before BB date, from Systembolaget Gårda, Göteborg]

Bottle @ Chez Bruce. Deep brown, small head. Coffee and tree bark. Chocolate ice cream. A bit more on the bitter end of the black IPA spectrum. Toffee and pine cone. Medium body, strong carb. Decent.

Leighton (11348) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 9, 2014
Bottle shared in London - many thanks to the CDA first lieutenant, Colin. Pours deep brown with a frothy, tan head. The nose has dark fruits, mellow cocoa, soft roast. Light to medium sweet flavor with strong, slightly harsh bitter earth, baking cocoa, charred wood. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Burnt wood on the finish, light raisins, bittersweet cocoa. Pretty straightforward, pretty decent.

Bottle at Bruces. It pours darkest brown with a tiny tan head. The nose is earthy, toasty, treacle, toffee, liquorice. Earth, rocky road. The taste is rich, roasty, bitter, rocky road, cocoa, ash, dirt and citrus peel with a bitter finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Decent.

yngwie (13750) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - APR 20, 2014
Bottle. A hazy, dark brown beer topped by a dense, finger-thick light beige head. The aroma has a pleasant piney and resiny touch and some faint roasted notes. The roasted malts at a pleasant level. It’s quite hoppy in the flavor, with some roasted notes and chocolate. Quite bitter. Full-bodied and quite pleasantly carbonated. Lasting finish with hops doing more than the malts. A nice black IPA that is almost easy drinkable. Not much impact from the malts, which is good. 140420
