4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Rich, smoky aroma has notes of coffee, licorice and molasses with a hint of dark chocolate. It pours a deep, opaque sable just a couple red tomcat whiskers above black and with a fairly thick tan head that leaves some respectable lacing. Mouth-filling smoky flavor has chocolate, coffee, licorice and molasses tones plus hints of caramel, horehound and miso. Firm-bodied texture has a decent amount of fizz and leaves a nice smoky finish that has hints of licorice, molasses and burnt malt. How ’bout them Swedes!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours to a super deep ruby brown body that looks black in the glass. A thin creamy tan head sits atop. The aroma is super roasted but not burnt char with a deep sweetened condensed milk and chocolate brownie and oatmeal. Flavors bring out a dry charred roast with more of the oatmeal and sweetened condensed milk chocolate brownie. Almost like a light chalkiness from the roast with a medium full body. A bit too much char in the flavor.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours deep dark as night with such little head it only forms at the edges of the glass. Aromas of sweet milk chocolate. Tastes of creamy chocolate, little hop, faint soy on the backend and lots of alcohol. Smooth mouthfeel with a decent linger and evolving character. Overall a great beer and will work well with these vanilla cookies I just bought. Yummy!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tasted on 8/24/11 from a 330mL bottle shared by pantanap, thanks, Kan. Pours opaque oily dark black with no real head, but a very thin collar of tan lace. The nose is dark and roasted with dark chocolate, coffee, a nutty note, and a hint of vanilla. The flavor is also very dark with chocolate syrup, darkly roasted coffee, banana, nutty, and a hint of light vanilla. The body is massive and syrupy with lighter than average carbonation that still has some sting, and a super long nutty dark chocolate, banana, and bitter coffee finish.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
500ml bottle courtesy of secret santa 2011. thanks! pours a deep, dark brown that sits black in the glass and is topped by a thin, khaki head that leaves dripping rings of lace on the glass. aroma is oustanding with heavy, rich, roasted malts, black coffee, and fresh-baked chocolate cake with subtle hints of smoke, anise, and black cherries emerging as it warms. flavor is delicious as well with a heavy dose roasted malts, charred grains, and spent coffee grains up front backed by bittersweet licorice, cacao chocolate, and sweet raisins with subtle notes of butterscotch and earth on the finish. palate is smooth and rich with light carbonation, a touch of boozy warmth, and finishes dry and roasty. overall, a great imperial stout.
