Julie says it is nice a little bitter hoppy but not a full hop exotic. Julie gives a 3.2

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Coffee, chocolate, licorice, nuts and a hint of soy sauce in the aroma. Almost black with a red tint, tan head. Medium to heavy sweet and medium bitter. Full body with a soft carbonation. Overall a really nice Imperial Stout, really rich in flavour, full, creamy body and well hidden alcohol.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks DSG. Black and opaque. A little smoky, dry, some sea salt and coffee in the nose, ink, salty and bitter in the mouth. Very silky-velvety mouthfeel, full-bodied, no carbonation.

At a tasting, thanks DSG, smallish head, dark brown colour, aroma of toasted nuts and peanuts and roasted coffee, flavour of coffee, dark chocolate and some muddy and liquor hints.
Quite easy but a bit too one dimensional.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
33 cl bottle @ home, BBE 05.03.2015
Aroma has well roasted malt, cocoa and some toffee typical to English ales. Flavour has ash, salty licorice, cocoa, some hoppy tones, hints of coffee and vanilla. Too hoppy and ashy, a bit disappointing. Gets a bit better after some sips though as the licorice notes grow stronger and ash steps aside.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
330ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with average, thick, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Roasty dark malty aroma, slightly earthy, nutty, hints of cocoa, dried treacle, plum, raisin; while warming up even more spicy and herbal, some lovage, creamy balsamico. Taste is dry dark malty, roasty, minimally metallic, a touch of plum, raisin, some treacle and cocoa; almost no malt sweetness left. Rich and complex, as wanted; dryness, the lack of heavy sweetness makes Idjit! dangerously drinkable. Matches a category named ’Classic British’ in my memory, reminds me of my primal Courage Imperial Russian Stout experience that dates back almost 20 years, reproducing images of those precious, small-sized 170ml bottles and the imaginary feeling of getting in touch with history. Extra point for triggering.
