3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at FoCo Stout Tasting 2013, courtesy of Aaron. Thanks man! Deep brown pour with a small tan head. Dark cocoa, coffee, caramel, raisins, alcoholic, raisins, and figgy aroma. Taste is damn smooth - dark fruits, cherry, chocolate, coffee, earthy hops, and caramel with a light burn on the backend. Slick mouthfeel with no carbonation. Tasty.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle @ Armin’s palace. Pours a deep brown/black appearance with a thin brown head. Really nice thick dark chocolate, herbal, a bit spicy, thick dessert aroma. Rich dark chocolate, plum, big red grape, a bit goopy flavor. Really delicious stuff on par with some of the best imperial stouts I’ve had. Great!

Pour out of nip bottle, thanks Aaron! Dark black pour with thin to no head, aroma brought dark chocolate, nice cognac/spirit, hints of oak, slight earthy tone into some coffee. Taste is a mix of bourbon, hints of nice oak, earth, slight vanilla, coconut in there as well, finishing sweet, slightly dry.

Aromen är söt och lite rökig. Fin nattsvart färg. Smaken är syrligt rökig, bacon, sötma. Väldigt god!

Thanks to the friend that got me this one! Pours a midnight obsidian color with a thin, tan head. Nose is roasted malts, big chocolate, some vanilla, marshmallow, oak, and fudge. Flavor is similar: big chocolate, some oak, some vanilla, and bits of fudge with a light hit of alcohol. This one was a great imperial stout and worth the wait. Medium in body and lingering chocolate in the finish.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Big thanks to markwise for saving this wonderful brew for the GABF Friday brewery tour bus shingid. It pours a murky brackish mahogany with a thin mocha colored head. The aroma is big with chocolate brownie, molasses and rich fudge goodness. Heavens no, what the hell is this!! The taste is just as ridiculously rich and yummy with soft moist chocolate brownie goodness (you almost need a cool glass of milk to go along with this), dark to a sliver of burnt maltiness and then molasses covered real butter backed chocolate fudge. Behind all that goodness lurks a bit of booze and faint smooth barrel notes. Good gravy. I need a napkin to wipe the chocolate off my face.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
In short: A chocolaty woody BA stout. Typical example of the style. Above average quality.
How: Bottle 250ml at Tre Små Rum, at Göteborg Sweden. Almost exactly one year before expiration date
The look: Near black body topped by a tan ring of foam
In long: Nose has plenty of barrels, burnt chocolate cake, toasted tobacco. Taste is viscous blackened malts, medium barrels presence, rich bakery black chocolate, a bit of booze, some vanilla, distant fruity notes. Carbonation is on the very soft side. The beer doesn’t feel too sweet at all, actually quite easy to drink for the style. A good beer but with so many BA stouts out there this one doesn’t really stand out, actually it is a very uneventful example of the style that gets some bonus points for good drinkability. So I’m rating this rare retired beer and all I can show for it is a rating on ratebeer, I’m really starting to think none of my opinion about a beer will ever deserve a press conference.

Lots of dried fruit, rum, port, roasted malts. Oily, low carbonation. Tastes like 12-13%, but very well balanced. Fantastic imperial stout!
