4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 hopscotch (7535) - Vero Beach, USA - MAR 9, 2011
Bottle… This beer rocks!… Pours dark brown with no head. The decadent nose is a swirl of fudge, cocoa nibs and a good bit of coconut. Full-bodied and velvety with tickling carbonation. The flavor consists of cocoa nibs, fudge, caramel and milk chocolate. Moderately sweet mocha finish with parting notations of coconut and gentle acidity. Kudos to 50belair for sharing this bottle of world class beer!
3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 BBB63 (5029) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - MAY 11, 2012
Bottle at DorkLordDay 2011 (backlog rating): Pours a very deep brown with some amber highlights at the edges, mostly black in the middle. Fast fading tan head and minimal lace. The aroma has notes of oak and whiskey barrel, vanilla, tannins, earthiness, charred along with chocolate, roasted coffee, rye bread, leather, tobacco, prune, and liquorice along with noticeable alcohol far greater than I was expecting. The taste is rich dark and sweet malts with some dark fruits and a touch of lactic acid. A bit woody and earthy and quite boozy. The mouth feel is soft and oily but very warming, again shocking and much more than 9.5% should be. It was great to try but not one I will likely every revisit.

Very dark red wine-ish colour with a brown head that’s quickly gone. Smells very sweet, oak, wood and sugar. Tastes sweet, oak, chocolate, vanilla and mocca. Soft, little to no carbo, full body and silky. Great beer!
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 kmweaver (3046) - Santa Rosa, California, USA - MAR 12, 2012
25cL bottle, courtesy of blomster. Thanks, Christer! Pours a dark, slightly oily chocolate-brown color; thin, medium-brown head with modest retention. Huge amounts of milk and dark chocolate spilling out of the aroma, tempered by the soft vanilla oakiness; closer in: pronounced charred barrel character and notes of bitter chocolate; modest amounts of internal heat, but tempered by that lush, layered chocolate. Lots of great pieces here, but the execution’s lacking. Full body with minimal carbonation; layers upon layers of milk chocolate that weighs down the palate (deliciously, mind you) with interspersed notes of a firm mineral hop bitternes, pronounced charred barrel notes, and a vinous alcohol core; the vanilla oakiness isn’t enough to smooth things. Like mixing the milk-chocolate equivalent of a Turkish coffee with oak, alcohol, and some sharp bourbon notes; again, delicious and generous in small amounts, but a bit much otherwise. Long finish of palate-coating milk chocolate, cocoa, and soft vanilla.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 yngwie (9201) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - JAN 31, 2012
Bottle, 25cl. It’s an almost black one, topped by a minimal sized beige head. The aroma is sugary and roasted, with molasses, chocolate and some coffee, joined by hints of licorice, vanilla and alcohol. The flavor doesn’t match the same level of pleasure as the aroma, but it’s still very nice, with coffee, roasted malts, licorice, alcohol and some vanilla and chocolate. A roasted kind of bitterness shows up in the middle, and lasts for a long time, getting company of some alcohol in the very end. It’s oily, full-bodied and warming on the palate, quite dry. A lovely beer that might deserve a higher rating. 110529

Tasted on 8/24/11 from a 330mL bottle shared by pantanap, big thanks to Kan for this one. Pours a completely opaque dark oily black with no real head, but just a thin, tan collar of lace. The nose is full of vanilla and coconut oak, banana, and a bunch of darkly roasted coffee, milk chocolate, and molasses. The flavor is full of dark chocolate, vanilla, brown sugar, banana, molasses, coffee, and toasted coconut. The body is massive and syrupy with light carbonation and a super long coffee, dark chocolate, coconut, and vanilla finish.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 after4ever (4500) - Brier, Washington, USA - JAN 10, 2012
250. Thanks, Rene! Pours jet black with a slim little tan rim of foam around the edge. Big chocolate and oatmeal nose showing a fair bit of oak along with it. Soy sauce creeping in near the end. Sticky medium body, very low carbonation. A bit of vodka twang in the mid-palate, but mostly dark chocolate with vanilla, showing soy sauce near the finish. This is a big, heavy, complex beer, but surprisingly drinkable and appealing.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 cpetrone84 (719) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 6, 2012
Pour is dark cola brown with some light tan head. Nose is light chocolate with lots of oak. Lightly roasted, hints of sweetness, a touch of peaty whiskey and some fusel alcohol. The taste is nice, more integrated with some sweet dark fruits up front, notes of oak underneath, rich milk chocolate and an assertive but pleasant roast in the finish lingering on. It has a full body, very soft on the palate, creamy and low carbonation. The finish is just a touch thin.
