Malty, roasted flavor with a mellow chocolate aftertaste. Medium to weak body with a smooth finish and a lingering sweetness.

Pleasant roasty malt aroma with some coffee in there too. Texture quite smooth with just a light carbonation. Flavour is well balanced. The bitterness is not overpowering and the finish is quite smooth.

From Beers of Europe. Subtle flavours of chocolate and coffee, hints of dried fruit. Lacks a big aroma, which I was expecting, but it also lacks an overpowering roast, which I also expected and this is not a bad thing. Don’t get me wrong, the roast character is there, but it lurks subtly in the background and just surfaces around the aftertaste, giving such a good finish. Blackcurrant becomes apparent towards the end, looks perfect, deep black, with a lovely foaming tan head. This is a beer I could drink plenty of - it doesn’t taste anything like 6.5% ABV and is a superb example of the style.

75CL bottle
pours pitch-black with a lot of coffee going on, light brown big head. aroma is typical stout, coffee and chocolate. palate is also coffee and chocolate. Also a tiny bit of smoke present. Quite complex. nice and dry taste. overall, a fine stout. bit bit sour because of the carbonation.
a lot of complexity for this low alcohol.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Martinus (1777) - Nijmegen, NETHERLANDS - JUN 3, 2011
Almost black colour, beige head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, burned malts, chicory. Lots of flavour for the ABV. Coffee with chicory tones, malts, burned malts. Bit creamy texture. Quite some burned malts bitterness. Finish rather dry and bitter. Nice one.

Bottle. Good roasted aroma, coffee, chocolate. Seemingly cloudy dark brown colour, red shine. Good roasted flavour. Nice coffee note with a bit of smoke. Very good. A bit thin mouthfeel, but does not seem like a high ABV either, so well done.

Clear very dark brown to black beer, creamy beige head, unstable, pretty adhesive. Aroma: lots of chocolate, mocha, somewhat metallic, sweet caramelly touch. MF: lively carbon, medium body. Taste: some caramel, mocha, bit metallic, lots of dark chocolate, some coffee. Aftertaste: chocolate, bit metallic, mocha, pretty dry hoppy ending.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 JorisPPattyn (7300) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - NOV 13, 2011
Very good brown-beige head over nearly black beer. Faint chocolate, lightly roasted, cypress, dark green leaves (and ditto malts). Sweet, slightly roasted, active carbon, sweetness building up in the finish, with upcoming woodiness and nutty flavours. Very slick, medium to well-bodied, and generally quite well-balanced. Rather excellent, very well-balanced stout, one to cherish again.
