Bottled, label says Donker Duivel. Light brown colour. Rich malt sweetness, very hoppy and very fruity.

Beautiful old bottle from 1947 (reflected in my appearance rating). Aroma of a generic belgian dubbel. Thin palate due to over condition. Fruity with a hint of cork. (I’ve kept the bottle)

Boutip (3459) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 15, 2004
Bottle – Poured a dark, almost ruby, type of brew with a nice bubbly head with good retention. Aroma of malt and spice is quite interesting with some floral aspect to it. Carbonation is good with just above average body. Mix of spice is quite interesting and most resemble Duvel, or a darker Duvel. Never tasted the original beer that was brewed before Boon took over but I still like this one. Many Thanks for my friend traveling in Belgian for bringing this back. Also, beautiful bottle that seems like it was used 100 years ago for the first time.

red/brown color, quiet neutral at first(when you expect something sour)it's more sweet with dark cherries. Not something i would buy again, but interesting it was.

UPDATED: MAY 25, 2005 re-rate: Orange, yeast and perfume aroma. Light sweet, light bitter, light sour, orange and a hint of caramel. Very this finish. Not bad but not much going on as well.12-15-2003, 2.8: Faint dusty aroma. Hazy, red/brown color, light brown frothy head, good lace. Light sweet, quite neutral, dusty, light cherry, dirt, medium body. Maybe Boon added some alcohol but removed the flavors. I liked the Vanderlinden version much more.

jerohen (1793) - Bussum, NETHERLANDS - DEC 14, 2003
Dutch ratebeer meeting. Clear cola coloured, medium head. Very weak muffy aroma. Soft malty flavour, quite sweet. Unusual, experimental, but not my favourite.

UPDATED: MAY 5, 2005 (dutch ratebeer meeting) Very weird beer. Very weak aroma, somewhere I noticed some hops, muffy. Hazy, red/brown coloured with a lasting white head. Weak unidefinable taste; malty and earthy. Smooth palate.

bierkoning (8109) - La Tropica, NETHERLANDS - OCT 11, 2003
UPDATED: JUN 11, 2006 Dark brown color. Vinegar and mustard aroma. Sweetish with a hint of vinegar, grapes, brandy and mustard. Cherry, dusty, oak and some alcohol. Very complex flavor, but a disappointing aroma. (5 3 7 3 13) Re-rate: from tap, Café Locus Publicus Delft. Blackberries and soap in the aroma. Blackberry flavor with laurel, some earthy hoppiness and a touch of licorice. Sweetish with a slight touch of lactic acid. Excellent aftertaste in wich laurel dominates.
