Pwn3d (575), Connecticut, USA May 24, 2008 Has been sitting in my parents fridge for quite some time. 8 months past its expiration. Poured dark amber with nice lacing. Had a astrigent bite to it and some alcohol was noticeable beneath caramel malts and bitterness. Went poorly with food. Slipstream (297), USA Oct 10, 2007 Updated: Nov 5, 2007This has a label with a seaplane on it, and a big, persistent head. A sweet aroma, which is appropriate for this rich, malty ale. Notes of herbs, grains, and nuts, and pretty low carbonation. Hints of caramel and port wine. This was a real find - got a bottle near Lake George, NY. This is close to being a beer grand slam - and what is a beer grand slam? A beer that has the qualities of flavor, style, power, and mystique - or something like that, anyway. tgncc (198), Bellmore, New York, USA Aug 25, 2007 Surprisingly, a decent beer. I’m on vacation in the adirondacks, and, as is my custom, I am sampling their local beer. This is ok. The nose is doughy, malty, slightly fruity. The appearance is a orange/gold, neutral in its appeal. The flavor has a crispness to it that I liked, a good balance between fruitiness and bitterness. Finish is a little sweet. This lacks the smokiness I usually expect witha scotch ale, and the sticky sweet/astringent finish. But greater minds than I call this a scotch ale, and thus, I do not question. mike1977ok (358), Netherlands Jul 17, 2007 Pale brown colour and thin white head. Fresh, light hop aroma. Strong hoppy flavour and real ale taste. There’s also a little fruitiness there which acts as a good balance to the flavour. Nice and easy to drink, especially when sitting in the Saratoga sunshine. ABUSEDGOAT (1849), California, USA Sep 16, 2006 Darker amber with a small head, average lacing. Aroma is doughy with notes of grass and bread. Some crispness in the mouthfeel that I didn’t like. Fairly standard and boring.
