2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Ultra hyped dark beer that doesn't taste like any porter I've tried before. It is bitter and zesty with lots of flavour

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Keg - Founders Brewery Cafe, Nelson. A dark but clear brown with a light tan head with fair retention. Tangy dark fruits, chocolate, liquorice and roasted malt characters. Light to medium body and somewhat light in the mid-palate. Soft carbonation, gently bitter length in the finish. Rounded palate texture.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
The head is medium, the body dark brown. It smells darkmalty, aromatic, malty, bit roasty. The taste is darkmalty, bit bitter, flowery, ok.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
This has some seriously hard acts to follow from the brews I have enjoyed this evening. Coppery brown in colour with a good finger of cream coloured head. There is a zesty hoppiness that dominates the first organoleptic impression. That and creaming soda (yeuchh!). Ther perfumy herbalness gives way to a lightish body with dandelion, sour fruits, grapefruit among them. It is citric and zesty rather than restrained, elegant and toasty. Not like many porters I have ever tried within memory, certainly.
I think it just misses the mark somehow.
