Back in merry olde England, the roadside inns were abuzz with banter and smiling glances from buxom barmaids - barmaids who, we might add, brewed the ale they served. In their honor, our brewers treat each batch of Dundee English-Style Ale they brew with the same love and care as the barmaids of old, combining pale and caramel malts with Columbus and Cascade hops for a malty, slightly sweet finish. Now, if only theyíd stop dressing like barmaids...

Slightly hazy gold pour with a 1 finger, soapy white head. Aroma of bread, grain, planty grassy and slightly skunky hops. Flavor is toast, doughy bread, biscuit, dishwater, citrus, grass and a little skunk. Light vegetal notes build on the back of my tongue as I drink, cabbage-like, Light fairly neutral body with a moderate carbonation. Tastes a little off, but Iíve had worse.

UPDATED: OCT 9, 2015 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a caramel-golden color with a huge foamy orange-tan head that towered over the glass, lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was malty, tart and fruity. The flavor was bitter with sour caramel, bread and crisp fruity hops. Medium length finish. Medium body. Meh.

Bottled. A golden beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of malt and fruit. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and caramel, leading to a dry finish. Boring

Tastes like I was playing quarters with a pint of Newcastle. Good, but I wish it didnít have the metallic aftertaste.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 12/8/2014. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy orange/amber color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of caramel, toffee, toast, biscuit, light nuttiness, plum, pear, apple, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, fruity yeast, and earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, toffee, toast, biscuit, light nuttiness, plum, pear, apple, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light earthy/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toffee, toast, biscuit, light nuttiness, plum, pear, apple, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Good balance, complexity, and robustness of dark/bready malt, fruity yeast, and earthy hop flavors; with a great crisp malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 5.1%. Overall this is a good English pale ale style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, fruity yeast, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Not hoppy or malty at all. Has a little bit of a creaminess. Goes down smooth with a sweet caramel flavor. Not a lot of aftertaste either. Not too familiar with English style ales but this is not to bad.

Pours copper with a pretty nice foamy lacy head. A little cloudy. Itís unfiltered, and I love that! Well, thereís not as much sediment as what I would expect, so I would guess slightly filtered.

Aroma is caramel roasty, and maybe leathery. Iíve never really smelled a beer quite like this one. Light cloves maybe. Not that itís bad, but different often is good.

Taste is caramel and nutty roasted malt. First taste isnít all that great, but subsequent tastes are better. I like it! But somehow, I was expecting more.

Mouthfeel is very dry. Medium body. A little bitter, but not a lot, and slightly astringent. Not loving it so much on mouthfeel, I may have rated it a little high.

Overall, Iím a little disappointed. Itís still pretty good all around. Good character and flavor, but the mouthfeel is off. Not one I would likely seek out again.

Interesting and thin. Very enjoyable but not much of a special feature in it. Nice aroma and a little cloudy.

Bottle - good size foamy head, light copper color, mild biscuity malt aroma and flavor, mild earthy hop balance, fairly dry finish, a little on the bland side overall but not terrible, certainly drinkable ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
