Pours a deep amber with ruby highlights. Nice malty aroma. Flavor is spicy: rich caramel malts with touches of cinnamon and pepper. Sweetish, but not overly so ... leads directly into a dark spiciness and a rather dry finish. Very tasty.

Labelled Special Edition Festive Ale. Pours near ruby colored, but shows a little orange, with a 1 finger beige head, fairly dense. Aroma is mild, but layered with a fruitcake type nose, with elements of dried apricot and nutmeg, also burnt sugar and mild citrus hopping. Appealingly smooth and soft palate upon first sip. Not much overt sweetness is apparent, but a full enough body is there nevertheless. A weak hint of spice comes through immediately as you swallow it, and lingers on the cheeks and sides of the tongue. Not much bitterness at all. So this is like a spiced ale that is weak on spice, weak on malt sweetness, and yet manages to present a fullness of palate that preserves its winter ale essence.

UPDATED: DEC 31, 2008 (bottle - 12 oz) Amber in color with a thin and filmy off-white head. There’s some spices in the aroma, but not much. It’s very light but I can detect some cinnamon, some cloves, and even some nutmeg. Flavor is sweet and malty with teasing amounts of caramel malts and the spices from the aroma. It’s not bad, just could use a little more flavor.

bittersweet. that’s the most i can say. the pour is a nice deep amber with aromas that hint only at a variety of mild spices. the taste is interesting, in that it is tart yet somehow fascinating. i agree with a few others that say that they’re on the right track, yet they haven’t reached the station. the finish/palate - i can’t quite put my finger on it and it’s driving me nuts. the beer is decent for a seasonal, but overall, it’s simply bittersweet.

Pours a dark reddish amber color with a medium sized white head. Aroma is banana-ish with nutmeg and malt overtones. Taste is very malty with hints of banana, nutmeg and cinnamon. Could pass off as a weak belgium styled ale. They had the right idea but need to tinker with it some more to make it better.

Pours dark amber, white head, high carbonation. Not really a terriffic holiday beer. Tastes unbalanced between sweet and bitter. Drinkable, but not special by any means.

Got this one out of the JW DUndee variety pack and was impressed with it compared to the highly overrated honey brown lager they push so heavily. Hard to explain the taste but fruity and cholately at the same time. very interestng and worth a try.

Purchased as a single bottle at Yankee Spirits in Sturbridge, MA. Banana aroma, almost Belgian-like with some sweet berries or something else in the nose that I am having difficulty pinning down. I get some roasted vanilla aromas as well. Not so bad of an aroma--just wished they could tell us what theyre trying to do with this beer. Transparent amber-garnet color with a decent frothed khaki head. Metallic, long finish. Tons of metal in the end--distracting. There is lots and lots of caramel maltiness to this and a thick, chewy body. The start is a bit sweet, but not overly done. This wouldnt be a bad beer, if not for the horrifically metallic flavor at the end. Unfortunately, most High Falls beers share the same characteristic. It must be the polluted Genesee River water they use. Thanks Kodak!

2/2/06 (bottle): Big pillowy head on a dark chestnut-colored beer. Apple-laced caramel aroma. Flavor is heavily tainted with spice ... maybe nutmeg, butterscotch, sweet sap? Doesn’t come off quite right, but not bad.

UPDATED: JAN 13, 2006 Watching The Office, a perfect time to try this brew (they work at Dunder-Mifflin, this is a Dundee...), thanks Jeff! Deep amber, very little head or lacing, but geez, full of carbonation, I’m burping like crazy before I’m halfway through it. Aroma is sweet and malty. Caramel, butterscotch, cinnamon, coffee cake, sweet sweet sweet, some herbal bitterness. This tastes like it was thrown together as your basic "winter ale" ; started tasting like plastic towards the end - ugh, thanks Jeff.....
