Bottle. Amber pour with a smaller off white head. Nose is caramel malt and sweet. Medium palate. Taste is ridiculously malty - needs some bittering hops to balance.

bottle - Pours clear amber and smells of caramel malt. It tastes the same and is sweet and one dimensional. This easy drinking beer is very average.

a deep brown with pronounced red hues this beer has a light off white head and a nice malt aroma with genuine caramel and fruit. The beer was just a bit sweet and had enough body without the need for harshness. a bit of fragrant hop in the aroma will hit your taste buds with low bitterness. The brew exhibits a soft charming mellow soul showing dimension and balance. A $6 six pack and a fine representation of the style.

Dundee is a brand of quasi-craft beers made by the Genesee Brewing Company out of Rochester, NY. They always send me their beers to try, but I’m not really sure why since I’ve never found their beers to be that good. Case in point: their new Irish Red Lager. It’s an inoffensive beer with a hint of more character than the average macro brew, but lacking anything worth a genuine compliment.
I poured a 12oz bottle into a lager glass.
Appearance: Dark copper/orange hue; appears cloudy to the naked eye but is mostly clear upon close inspection. Not very effervescent. Forms a large, off-white, frothy head, but it dissipates quickly and leaves little lacing on the glass.
Smell: Very mild general malty scent. No generic lager aroma (thankfully), but not much to speak of overall.
Taste: I hate describing a beer in vague terms like "malty," but that’s an accurate description of Dundee Irish Red Lager. Though the beer is brewed with four malts and three hops, none of them individually stand out to me. I get a generic maltiness with what I can only compare to the taste of split pea soup or any kind of canned vegetable taste. It’s not that it’s sour or bitter or astringent - it’s just there, really. Nothing I would consider delectable, yet nothing that’s completely repulsive (I’ve had MUCH worse). It’s a little cereal-like with a touch of red apple sweetness and maybe even some cider-like tartness. Otherwise, it’s a boring palate that could easily be salvaged with emphasis on more authentic flavors. There’s a faint amount of caramel here - why not play that up more? The hops are practically non-existent - throw a bunch more in there to emphasize some pine and earthy flavor, please.
Drinkability: For a macro-produced lager, this is surprisingly big in the body and mouthfeel. Thicker and softer than most, but not as overtly crisp and bubbly as others. It goes down smooth, but it does leave a soup-like aftertaste. Not particularly refreshing, and perhaps a bit challenging to drink since the flavor is lacking. Dundee Irish Red Lager seems perfectly weighted at 5% ABV, although I’m not sure this is worth drinking in large quantities anyway.

This was okay. But then i found it was from the good ol genesee brewing company, of ROCHESTER NY. Why do I care? Well, I may or may not be wearing a shirt emblazoned with one of the college institutions from that city AT THIS VERY MOMENT (note this paired drinking + clothing combo was fully a consequence of chance). So this has a sheep on the label that appears to have taken a swim in the genesee river. Poor thing probably doesn’t have much time left on this earth. The beer is alright though. Not great, but not horrible.

When drinking a beer makes me feel sick, I can tell it’s just a craft beer in disguise, this is one of them. A day and a half after drinking 2 12’ers my stomach is still making noises. What do they ferment this stuff with, anti-freeze? Bad beer that tastes’ like its not naturally carbonated and makes you feel sick before you feel buzzed.
I’d sooner drink their parent company’s ’Cream Ale’ that’s how bad this was.

Poured a clear copper color with a large off-white head. Aroma is slightly skunky with caramel and bread. Taste has bread and grains with some citrus. Interesting flavors. Finish is crisp with some hops and more grains. Aftertaste has a touch of light fruit. Overall not bad!

Genesee / Dundee quality and variety of beers are macro friendly. A Killians Red style Irish Ale is a logical addition. Deep amber bodied with good balance of sweetness and bitterness. Where the discontinued Genesee Red mirrored Yuengling Lager, Dundee Irish mimics a Killians Red. Viva la macro!

i dont know why Dundee gets such bad ratings. their stuff isnt bad, just not super exciting in these days of Imperial this and Double that. this is a solid irish lager, certainly as solid as any.

The aroma is grassy, metallic, and dusty with some sweet malt. The appearance is amber with a foamy head. The taste is like the aroma but dominated by the malt. The palate is thin. Overall very drinkable but not very enjoyable.
