3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 rampmaster (643) - Alden, New York, USA - DEC 14, 2008
Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: The pour produces a one inch thick foamy head. It has a light tan color and very good retention. It fades very slowly and makes some cool, slick lacing as it makes its way down the glass. The body has a very dark brown color that is nearly opaque with dark, deep crimson highlights.
Smell: The aroma is rather light and has some light roasted malt notes with some leafy hops and a hint of sweet caramel.
Taste/Mouth feel: Its flavor has solid base of sweet roasted malt with dark caramel and light coffee notes. Hop flavor is modestly balanced and has a nice leafy tone with a very slight metallic touch creeping in as well. The finish has a quick flash of roasted flavor before quickly fading off the tongue. The palate has a solid medium body and a slick smooth texture with well balanced carbonation.
Notes: Overall this was a very solid Porter with good drinkability. To me this is one of the better offerings from the Dundee craft beer line of the High Falls Brewing Co.
2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 MrRain (472) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - DEC 12, 2008
12oz bottle poured into an English pint. Starting temperature is 39 degrees F. DP pours dark brown, verging on black, with an off-white head that is medium to small in size and leaves thin soapy lacing. The aroma is very malty with a strong scent of artificial caramel. As the description claims, the hops make a subtle appearance. The body is a little heavier than I would expect from a porter, easily in the stout range. This beer is a bit dry. It has a nice flavor of slightly burnt grains and coffee along with a sweet nut taste. There is something peculiar about the taste I can not quite put my finger on. It is sour and unpleasant. I wonder if I might have a slightly old bottle. I have another bottle and if the taste is not present in the other one I will let you know. As is typical of a dry beer the finish is quick, leaving little memento of its passing.
4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Potatoswatter (4) - USA - DEC 6, 2008 does not count
After dozens of these, and the novelty of being 75c wearing off, still my favorite. Way better than Guinness. But-
ESSENTIAL- serve warm in a frosted/frozen glass. This will bring out a thick, tasty head with bitter, nutty, and alcohol flavors, removing these from the liquid, and making the carbonation properly light for the style. Now, the strongest flavor is sweet chocolate malt.
Do not chill beer before pouring gently into frosted glass. There are some serious flaws and bitterness when served normally. It is a shame the bottle has no instructions, given the difference it makes.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 porterhouse (1481) - Alna, Maine, USA - NOV 28, 2008
(Bottle from Lou’s Beverage Barn, part of Dundee "Craft Pack") Pours very dark brown with some rubyish and lighter brown highlights. Two and a half fingers of somewhat lumpy tan head. Aroma of milk chocolate and cocoa, maybe some light coffee roast. Mouthfeel fairly smooth and creamy, quite milkshake-like. Lots of patchy, broken lacing. Flavor is a tasty blend of chocolate and roast with lighter notes of coffee and light bitterness toward finish. A very tasty and quite drinkable porter (why the low scores??!).
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 TheBeerGod (3960) - Newport News, Virginia, USA - NOV 21, 2008
Bottle. Dark ruby colored brown. Nearly opaque. Small sticky tan head. Nose is weak chocolate, malt and roasted notes. Some light hops begin to come through. Taste is soft roasted malts, light caramel and light chocolate. The taste on this is a bit thin. I’d suspect this to be in the 4% ABV range but see it’s 6.5%. Really a session style porter. Body is a bit on the thin side but the carbonation is rather creamy so this is too terrible, body-wise. The finish is more light chocolate and roasted notes with some caramel thrown in. Meh.
