This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized light brown colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a strongly carbonated dark brown colored body. The weak aroma was brown malt. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The thin flavor contained notes of roasted malt and brown malt. The roastiness occurred at first then faded. Later that evening, my stomach became upset after drinking it. An OK brew just nothing special.

Savannah, Ga. - Kroger Grocery store - 12 oz bottle - dark brown pour, faint white head that dissipates quickly. Sweet molasses aroma. Flavor is sweet for a porter with some brown sugar notes and hints of cappucino. Mouthfeel is leaning towads the thin side. Overall, very decent.

(12oz bottle thanks to JJFoodie) clear brown with lasting khaki bubbles. Nose of dry cocoa, cream, and plastic. Taste of sweet nuts, cream and pecan with some cracker to finish it off.

Bottle. Pours almost black with a beige head. Aroma is slightly roasted with notes of biscuits and bread dough. Medium body. Flavor notes include roasted coffee, light caramel, bread, and brown sugar. An okay beer, +1 in the overall score for being local.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. Got this in a sampler pack with several other JWs. Wasn’t blown away by too many of them. This was basically a nice, drinkable version of a porter.

Appearance: Pours a clear, dark brown body crowned with two fingers of light beige foam. Meager splotches of lace on the way down. Smell: Predominate nose smelling of dark malts with notes of chocolate, licorice dust, and dark fruits with a fine, fine whiff of spice in the distant background. Taste: Dark maltiness with a touch of unsweetened chocolate powder, light roast, and a hint of licorice. Lightly sweet at the start, but washes out for a faintly sourish, vaguely fruity accent hinting at raisins. Hop profile with a touch of spiciness and a restrained bitterness. Splash of mineral water. Dry maltiness on the latter half until the finish. One of those beers that doesn’t improve with any warmth, quite the opposite, in fact, so, don’t waste a minute with this one. Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: A basic but acceptable porter. It offers light tastes with a light body aimed for ease of drinkability, one would assume.

UPDATED: JAN 30, 2010 The aroma is porter like but weak. There is coffee, toasted malt, and chocolate. The appearance is dark brown with a head that is large and foamy. The flavor is like the aroma with a bitter sweet finish. The palate is OK. Overall it’s a not even a decent porter. It tastes like a coal with an astringent finish.

I found this to be surprisingly decent. Quite thick and roasty in the aroma and first impression, it seems to finish a bit metallic, but overall quite acceptable.

Bottle at the Bloomington Beer Festival. Poured a dark brown with a light brown head. Aroma was malty with sweet notes. Flavor had caramel notes from the hops. A bit too sweet for me. Very light on the tongue as well. Not my idea of a Porter.
