2.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 bigrond (1226) - factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 16, 2008
I really find it hard to believe that this is the highest rated beer from ’JW’. As a porter goes....this is bad. Aroma is absent, flavor is dull. color is watered down and the palate...what palate. I have to compare this with other proters and - well, it doesn’t compare. ONLY redeeming quaility is ’6.5’ Other wise I would not have given this beer such a high score.

Bottle from a mixed pack on 06/27/2009. Dark brown body with light ruby highlights. Light roasted malt, honey, and some pale malt aroma with hints of molassas. Molassas, faint roast, caramel, and pale malt flavor, some slightly tart notes. Medium light body with moderately high carbonation.
2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 9/20 mwelsh13 (499) - Maryland, USA - AUG 13, 2008
12 oz bottle poured dark brown and slight red. Some roast flavor and aroma. Very thin. Good bite at the end.
1.9 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 cheapdark (2962) - Quiptown & Central Valley, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 22, 2006
UPDATED: DEC 26, 2006 Brown 12 oz bottle with twist off cap. Pours dark brown, almost black, in my steeler stein. Nice small creamy head that makes me want to touch it. Flavor is a bit roasty and heady. This is like guinness draft on steriods. Finish is a bit malty and it lasts for awhile in a bitter fashion. The only thing I really don’t care for about this beer is its malty finish, not as bad a La Rossa but it is a bit offensive. However, you would never know this is 6.5% beer from the taste, it is much too smooth.
1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20 Elwood (1967) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - APR 1, 2009
12 oz. bottle. Pours a very deep brown with ruby highlights. Small, off-white, creamy head. The head is a little quick to fade. Light coffee and roasted malt notes in the nose. Medium carbonation with a medium mouthfeel. The first taste I get is a off medicinal note. Pair that with some roasted malt, slight coffee notes, and a dry bitterness, and you have a beer that isn’t very good. The finish is a lingering off bitter taste. This is pretty dreadful stuff and I would not recommend wasting your time with it.
1.9 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 nittanytide (147) - Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 5, 2010
Poured dark brown. Surprisingly thin and watery. Hardly any aroma. Tasted more like a brown ale than a decent porter. I did not enjoy this at all.
1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 jaymobrown (1457) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 11, 2009
Brown and cola like. Smells of sudsy hops. Smells of wet bag with oats like after a good shower. Bitter with a sour aspect. Really light for a porter. Oddly so. Short finish. Really easy to drink.

Dark pour with a thick tan head. Aroma is weak. Flavor is basically of the worst porter i’ve ever had.
1.8 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 mnurda (786) - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA - OCT 14, 2009
Part of a sample pack purchased in NYC. Most of the beers tasted the same. Nothiing stood out.

Very malty on the nose and also as the first flavor. A little of the wine-ish taste that I don’t like in beers. (Which is why I don’t like Sam Smiths). Dissipates somewhat, but still leaves a sweetness. Not my cup of chowder.
