cking (1012), North Canton, Ohio, USA Jul 28, 2008 Hardly an American Wheat by style, and nowhere close to being a true Hefe....but it is a fresh/crisp tasting light ale. Airy and empty aroma, there is honestly nothing to note. Vibrant golden orange color with a thick white head and good lacing. Light bodied, refreshing and clean. Wheat is evident providing a dry/grainy flavor. Slight bitter hop taste along with a minor fruitiness. Soapy, awkward aftertaste becomes distracting. Not very exciting. yesyouam (587), Fairport, New York, USA Jul 28, 2008 JW Dundee’s Hefeweizen is a slightly cloudy, very sparkling light golden ale with a thin white head that leaves nice lacing. It has a very fresh aroma that seems to come mostly from the hops. It’s citrusy with a little bit of biscuit. It is pretty light bodied, very crisp and quite smooth. The flavor is very mellow, but bright and lemony. It’s a total American Wheat-- hardly a Hefeweizen. There is a little bitterness at the end of the taste and the hops match the flavor of the wheat very well. It’s very refreshing! coldbrewky (716), Saugerties, New York, USA Jul 27, 2008 Updated: Jul 28, 2008Part of the sampler pack the wife brought home for me. Light body is supported mostly by the yeastyness of the unfiltered beer. Lack-luster appearance. Head is bright white and has some legs but not many. Tinges citrus peel and light light spices are mere ghosts of what a "hefeweizen" should be. The second one will be used to kill slugs in the garden. Actually I drank it instead of the pale bock which killed some slugs but not as many as Busch. Sparky27 (1559), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jul 25, 2008 Bottle. Pours a hazy honey color with one finger off-white head and spotty lacing. Nose has a slight citrus and sweet wheat aroma. Taste slight lemony/orange flavor, spice and sweet wheat. It also has a strange aftertaste like old iced tea. Light mouth feel. Meh, it’s cold and wet so it’s refreshing, however it’s not my favorite style and a poor representative of it = not good on the Sparky scale. General66 (167), Streator, Illinois, USA Jul 20, 2008 12 ounce bottle from a JW Dundees Craft Pack. Pours a golden yellow color with a huge two finger width white frothy head. The aroma consists of very faint citrus with wheat hints. The taste is refreshing with light hints of citrus. Very light mouthfeel. Finishes very smooth. There is really not much to say about this brew... it is refreshing at best but extremely average in a lot of ways. KnN (712), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA Jul 19, 2008 If I hadn’t seen he word Hefeweizen on the bottle, I would have never guessed. like having a mouthful of pennies and sourdough bread. Just funky and unappealing. Trooper11 (464), Suffolk, Virginia, USA Jul 17, 2008 Sour, malty bread aroma eminates from this cloudy yellow brew with average looking foamy white head. Taste is lightly hopped flavored club soda. ChainGangGuy (2523), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jul 16, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, bubbly (like a soda), golden body with a small, fizzy, white head.
Smell: Very mild wheat scent but with plenty of sweetish, honeyed cereal notes.
Taste: Pale maltiness, slight wheat tone and a medium sweetness present. One drop of lemon juice. Three drops of clover honey. Tremendously light hop taste and bitterness. Finishes bubbly, crisp, with a lingering sweetness.
Mouthfeel: Light-bodied. Medium carbonation, though fizzy like a soda.
Drinkability: Fairly far removed from a traditional hefeweizen, it’s aptly thrown under the generic "wheat ale" heading. Light, refreshing, and with a generally agreeable taste, though very, very light. If you’re looking for a wheat ale with more, well... anything, then you’d best look elsewhere.
