3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUL 16, 2003 This is one of the darker Brown Ales that I have ever tried. This Dunedin ale tastes of highly roasted malt, and chocolate; the hopps are evident in the bitter finish. Overall, it is apparent that this is a full, fresh, handcrafted, and well-balanced brown ale. Kudos to Dunedin Brewery for a job well done.

I seem to be in the minority with this one, but I didn't think much of this beer. The fizz sound on the pour was just like a cola, and speaking of cola, that's what it looked like, and topped by a medium tan head. Aroma had cola sweetness. Taste was quite bitter, more chicory malty than hoppy. It had minimal sweetness, hints of caramel and, yes, cola.

This really isn't that bad at all. It has a full flavor, a little rough on the throat, but not too much. Thick and tasty.

Head is initially large, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is
murky dark brown, dense tiny/small particles. Aroma is moderately yeasty
(cobwebs, horseblanket, barnyard), moderately malty (toasted dark bread,
lightly hoppy (herbs), with light notes of clove and apricot. Flavor
is moderately sweet, moderately bitter, lightly acidic. Finish is
lightly acidic, heavily bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture,
fizzy carbonation, lightly astringent. As with the Oktoberfest, it's
over carbonated, thin, and
unbalanced (massive unrelenting bitterness with too little malt,
especially for this style), but it certainly doesn't lack character or
uniqueness. This brewery shows promise...they're using good yeast,
appropriate hop varieties for the styles (so far as I've had), and seem
to be making challenging/interesting beers. But they still have some
refinement to work on IMHO. With beefier malt, this one could be world

Excellent, excellent brown ale. This is what a brown ale should be like, in my opinion. If you like brown ales, you want to give this one a try. Malty, not too roasty, smooth, and refreshing.

Great toffee caramel aroma that’s also in the taste but not quite as strongly. Nice roasted malt balance with a light hoppy finish. Not as convincing on the palate as I was expecting from tha nose, and also a little overcarbonated. Still much better than I was expecting.

this time i had the bottled version. tasty brown ale, more of a hoppy tinge than a malty one, but very drinkable. nutty and not too sweet. dark brown color, practically non-existant head. quite good.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAR 1, 2003 As solid of a brown ale as i have ever had. The most important thing to remember when having a fine brew is to have it at room temperature. That really lets the flavor come through. There was a perfect blend of the 9 hops and 5 malts. A great brown ale. Not dark enough, and not they malts lack a nuttiness to them.

In the bottle. I was very pleased. Had wanted this one for a while. Good hoppiness, nd overall great balance. Quite scottish style evident in all of these guys brews, from what I can tell. Worth finding. Too bad I had bad information and the brewery was closed when I went!

Dark rich color, a hint of chocolate, not heavy but definately with body. A slight bitter hop finish but the malt carries the day.
