3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured a dark black with a smaller light brown head. Aromas and tastes of chocolate, roasted malts, and some hops (pine). Hops come out more in the taste. Toffee came out in the aroma and taste as the beer warmed up a little. Body was very thin and watery.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Thanks to matta for this. Pours raven black (not a hint of ruby or light through this baby) with medium tan head and marvelous lace. 5 for appearance. Aroma of malt, HUGE piney hops, toffee, slight dark fruit. Tastes roasty malty (semi rauchy), with big hops and much chocoff. Almost like dumping an IPA into a stout, which is the only (minor) problem here. The two taste components work fairly well to an extent, but get a bit discumbobulated as it warms. Very smooth palate, but slightly light in body for a stout. Still, I’ve never had a beer, or even a black-and-tan for that matter, that was anything like this in its uniqueness. I’d drink this again in a heartbeat and beg for more.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: FEB 16, 2005 This should be classed as a dry stout. Very dry and roasty, with some nice smokey notes. Slight acidic. Thin, a little watery at times. Nice long bitter finish. A little more robist, and this would really be good.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle... Very black ale with a small, frothy, khaki head. Lots cirrus and weeping lace. Smokey, chocolatey, burnt nose with a whisper of pine. Charred, smokey flavor. Light-bodied and watery with fizzy carbonation. Short, bitter, ashen finish. Thanks go out to matta for the bottle.

2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 7/20
Bottle pours dark brown, almost black, large fizzly fawn colored head, with attractive lacing. Hoppy sourness on the nose. Slight chalkiness, a bit of cocoa and coffee. Seems fairly dry at least. Spritzy mouthfeel, slight astringency, with a charred malt flavor. Very airy and quite thin for a stout. Body is non-existant, and the mouthfeel is extremely thin. Finishes astringent, slightly metallic. This is a stout?   WTF?!?!?

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Color is firmly, fully black, black as Satan’s spleen, and the head is a nicely retained, frothy, brown. Aroma is nicely roasted and toasted, with espresso tinges and bitter notes I quite admire.
On first taste, it feels more like an oatmeal stout than any other kind. Not exactly thick in mouthfeel, but still full-bodied, rich, and delicious. An easily downable stout, but not terribly outstanding.
Label states, below the fiddling satyr, "slam this mutha!" I hope they forgive me for not following that stern directive. I approached this generous 16 0z. bottle with careful consideration.
And it was okay, a fine-enough stout.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Thanks to Matta for this bottle. This was pretty good. Very dark with a chocolate color head that took foever to go down. Nice roasty chocolate taste to it. The only draw back was that it was a little thin.

1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20
Toasty, dark chocolatey. Very dry but thin as well, which to me makes it all kind of empty, even the toasty notes.
