3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 argo0 (9226) - Washington DC, USA - MAR 22, 2003
Clear amber body with small off-white head. Aroma is rather hoppy -- floral and grapefruit. Taste is also hoppy, though it's more floral/pine -- finishes with a decent bite. Medium malty sweetness provides pleasant balance.
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 CaptainCougar (6834) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - JAN 4, 2003
Nice hoppy aroma flowing from the copper body. Generous head with tiny bubbles of carbonation that cling to the glass. The flavor starts slightly sweet, but fades into an overpowering bitterness. It sort of gets stuck in the back of my throat. It could use more balance and finesse, but still a respectable product.
2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Ohmybock (29) - Georgia, USA - JAN 3, 2003
Decent hop aroma. There was something in the flavor that I didn’t like. It’s possible that this bottle was a little old.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 BeerLimey (2136) - California, USA - DEC 8, 2002
Extremely clouded amber body, decent head form and retention. Hops are pretty bracing in the aroma, perfumy like roses with strawberry sweetness and hints of woodiness. A little too fizzy and pretty light in body. Bitter hop presence throughout extremely dry. Decent cake like maltiness provides adequte balance. A hoppy pale ale overall but malt could use a little more depth.

A middle of the road ale here. The hops were very noticable. Nothing really special though, just an average brew, but there’s nothing wrong with that.
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Albert (39) - Miramar, Florida, USA - JUN 17, 2002
I like it. Not too hoppy, just enough. Nice aroma, and color. Head stays around for a while.

In bottle. Meaty, but nowhere near the kind of good malt balance as in their Brown. Cali-style APA, IMO.

An interesting version of the pale ale, hop heads will be disappointed, malt addicts will still think it is too bitter. I think that this an enjoyable beer that would fit very nicely on the beach in the summer.
