Redhead Red is dedicated to our favorite redhead, who can be seen navigating the streets of downtown Dunedin on her Nuvo Deco 1966 Rainbow Ryder. Dundedin's Readhead Red is craft brewed with British Pale and Crystal malts. Delicately hopped with Willemette and East Kent Golding hops. This Celtic style ale goes with Just about any type of pub fare. Slainte!

Appearance: Lightly hazed, tawny-hued amber body with a near-white head.

Smell: A sweetish smell of toaster crisped bread slices, lightly caramelized sugars and soft fruity esters with minimal influences from herbal hops.

Taste: As with the nose, it’s sweetish and toasty with a touch of scantly nutty caramel. There’s an apple-like fruitiness, but also some light citrus showing from the hops. Lightly bitter. Semi-dry, near-crisp finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation.

Overall: A solid, simple red ale.

4oz on tap at the brewpub. Labeled 6% ABV. simply "RED ALE" on the board. Almost totally hazy red, slight amber color. Little off-white head. Few bits and ropes of lace, kind of loose. Medium body. Smooth, kind of soft lighter carbonation. Caramel malt, mild toastiness, light bit of tropical fruit. Kind of spicy. Light to moderate sweet, light bitter. OK, but not interesting at all... A wholly average red ale.

This poured a light red with a white head. Aroma was of bread and caramel, flavor similar but lightly metallic.

Pours a nice amber red color with off-white head. Caramel malt, some citrus, and pine on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with a nice malt backbone.

Enjoyed a sample from a pint on tap at the brewpub. The beer had a clear deep amber to dark red color with a foamy tan head that had average retention and lacing, but good cling. Its aroma featured caramel malt and toffee along with some lighter earthy and grainy hops tones. It was a sweet, malty, caramel beer with flavors of toffee, and a very light grainy bitter aspect. The beer had a wet and watery body with low to average carbonation.

On tap at the brewery. Red in color with a small white head. Aroma is sweet caramel malt. Sweet caramel malt with a touch of chocolate malt. Light to medium bodied with a sweet finish. Not bad.

Pint pour of amber brown with full white head. Nose is mostly malt and sweet caramel. Flavors come through pretty similar. Not really complex or heavy, just an easy drinking amber that goes down smooth. Medium body with mild lacing. Not bad.

Originally reviewed: 6/24/09. Pours a crystal clear amber with a big popping ivory head that fizzes away quickly. No lacing. There’s a big metallic twang on first sniff, but this melts to a slight smoky, roasted scent. Crisp mouthfeel that dries the mouth a smidge. Tastes a tad like metal, as the scent hints at. Some sweet caramel bumps that out of the way quickly though. Also some toasted bread crust, and bready malts in there as well. Not a bad brew.
