COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A flavoursome, fruity Irish red ale, which uses crystal malt to give a caramel character that is balanced by a light dash of bittering hops. Perfect accompaniment to most meat and game dishes. Contains a yeast sediment - store upright and pour carefully. Best served at room temperature.

Bottle, medium long lasting creamy head, a little hazy dark red to very light brown colour, malty cakey barnyard aroma wit hjust a hint of vanila, biscuity malty flavour with some caramel a light herbal bitterness and a pleasant bready sourness. Quite nice and quite easy to drink.

Geruch nach Malz und Beerenfrüchten. Geschmack dann relativ wässrig und wenig bitter. Der Geschmack nach Beerenfrüchten ist aber noch erkennbar. Etwas adstringierend im Nachgeschmack.

stravale (2258) - Near Carrick-on-Shannon, IRELAND - MAY 28, 2014
Bottle from O’Briens, Athlone [290514]
Copper red, clear, light beige big frothy head, some lacing
Aroma of toasted brown bread, toasted caramel malts, soft berry fruits
Taste of toasted caramel, bit earthy, touch of rust, fairly bitter twiggy hops, red berry fruits
Palate - Fairly soft carb, light to medium body, light sweet berry malts. Finish of bitter toasted malts, lingering bit over bitter rusty note I’m not keen on
Overall - More going on here than usual for an Irish Ale, but those rust notes spoilt it somewhat for me

UPDATED: DEC 8, 2014 update 8/12/14 - Not as hazy as I remember, seems better balanced. 500ml bottle. Pours an amber color, hazy. Grainy taste. Small head which disappears quickly. Overall enjoyed it and would buy again.

Bottled 500ml. -Hazy amber coloured, medium sized creamy off-white head, dry nutty caramel nose. Moderate sweet malty, light fruity and caramel with mild hoppy notes in the finish. Ok one.

elbernays (621) - Dublin, IRELAND - DEC 14, 2013
50cl bottle. Pours dark red white head. Roasted nuts, burned wood, toffee. Nose follows into flavours. Definite burnt notes which dries the mouth with a nice bitterness. Body is light and the flavour cannot carry this so is watery on the finish. Okay just.

The very best example of an Irish Ale I’ve had to date. Not my favorite style to be sure, but this was very easy to enjoy. Bready malts highlighted by a smoothness rarely found in Irish Ale’s which tend to be over-carbonated. Beautiful finish on this one, another good one from this brewer.
