COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A flavoursome, fruity Irish red ale, which uses crystal malt to give a caramel character that is balanced by a light dash of bittering hops. Perfect accompaniment to most meat and game dishes. Contains a yeast sediment - store upright and pour carefully. Best served at room temperature.

February 15, 2011. Shared by garthicus with blankboy and me. 500ml bottle. Hazy copper with an average diminishing frothy off-white head. Lovely fruity aroma, yeasty and "Belgian" - smells a lot like a baked alaska, quite floral - almost 8/10! Taste is a tad harsh - apple and appleseed, young cheap chablis - green, bitter, some alcohol. Slick, astringent, weakly carbonated and light-bodied, finishes with some back-palate bitterness and dry acidity. Lovely aroma, a bit of a let-down afterward.

500ml bottle pours an amber brown color with a finger off-white head that leaves some spots of lacing on the glass. Aroma is caramel and citrus with some other light fruits. Taste is a citrus hop bitterness with a fruity and caramel malty sweetness. Light to medium bodied with decent carbonation. Overall, a nice brew that tastes good and has a nice balance to it.

Bottle @ Bierhaus, Cork. Murky, a bit muddled, coppery-red. Bright fruity aroma is apples, pears, red plums. Hop flowers in the background. Quite a thick, lightly syrupy character. Lots of malt sugars. Lively carbo. Juicy, fruity, and good balance.

Bottle. Brownish orange with a thin head. Aroma is a bit spicy with caramel malts. Flavour is very tasty, malty caramel, almost treacle with a dry tart finish. Low carbonation.

500ml brown bottle. Colour is orange, hazy. Lots of white head with lots of sticky lace. Aroma - caramel with citrus and floral hints. Taste - citrus, caramel, cardboard, minerals, quite dry. Light in body. Overall a decent looking brew, but falls short in flavour and finish. Disappointing. Would not drink again.

In bottle, thanks Gregor. Pours a cloudy amber colour with a thick white head. Aroma is quite fruity with yeast, biscuity malt and alcohol. A nice barnyard mustiness with honey, caramel and a yeasty linger. Moderate carbon ation and a dry finish. Light CO2 prickle and a lovely woody character. I really enjoyed this.

Finally (and probably temporarily) this beer brings me to the number one spot for raters of Irish beers. Bottle. Appearance: Copper, almost hazy. Medium off white head. Aroma: Mildly fruity, good amount of malt, nice yeast nose too with a pleasant apple quality. Flavour: Malt, nice caramel quality, bitter, lightly hopped with a good yeastiness too, long bitter finish, quite a nice brew I found it quite pleasant and would happily drink again.

Bottle from O’Briens, Athlone [290514]
Copper red, clear, light beige big frothy head, some lacing
Aroma of toasted brown bread, toasted caramel malts, soft berry fruits
Taste of toasted caramel, bit earthy, touch of rust, fairly bitter twiggy hops, red berry fruits
Palate - Fairly soft carb, light to medium body, light sweet berry malts. Finish of bitter toasted malts, lingering bit over bitter rusty note I’m not keen on
Overall - More going on here than usual for an Irish Ale, but those rust notes spoilt it somewhat for me
