CBAC day 24.Pours a dark brown with a huge over carbonated brown head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, piney hops and earth... Quite pleasant. Taste is roasted malts, dark chocolate, cocoa and then a big shot of piney hops on the finish. Bitterness is nice and borders on being astringent bit balances well with the malts. Other than being highly carbonated out of the bottle this is a great beer once it settles in a glass.

Advent 23. Too much head and it stays forever. Dark brown beer. Dusty old ale aroma. Brown ale flavour. Plenty of hops build from middle to finish. A bit of dusty Belgian quality as well. just fix the carbonation.

341ml bottle. Clear dark brown body, small mocha head with good retention and dense lancing. Aroma of leather, yeast, herbs, toast, earthy. Taste is dry upfront, followed by a huge bitter herbal hops wave, caramel, burned coffee, ash, metallic tones. Long herbal bitter aftertaste.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a deep burnt umber almost black with a finger of khaki foam. The nose is roasted malt, pine sap and a bit of earthy soil. The palate is roasty but thin with great drinkability... lots of pine sap, citrus and a grassy bitter finish. The roast is well integrated and this is a good representation of a black ipa and not a porter with hops ! Yum.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours nearly black with a one and a half finger, fluffy, tan head. Large amount of lacing coats the glass. Rather large sediment floating throughout. I think I may have an older bottle.
Aroma is roasty but not over done. Hints of coffee, chocolate, and bread.
Taste is a balanced bitter with a roasty, chocolate, almost creamy, bitter aftertaste.
Medium body with a low-medium carbonation. Slightly creamy in the mouth but still remains very drinkable.
Overall I am impressed. The guy at the dépanner said this was missing from my rather large bottle purchase and I can see why. This is great stuff. Nice and roasted but still very drinkable. I will buy again for sure and hope for a fresher bottle. Cheers!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
More of a hoppy porter than a black IPA, IMO... but that is quite alright. Deep black body, large light tan head, dense lacing. Assertive roast, light coffee, plenty of piney and earthy hops as well as a hint of citrus and floral character. Medium bodied, appropriate carbonation, lively bitterness in the finish. Refreshing and satisfying.
