I tried this beer on July 20, 2012 at "Bar Volo" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a cola black colour with a cola brown creamy head that lingered. The aroma was roasted malt, west coast hops, and some caramel notes. The mouthfeel was medium to full bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was roasted malt, citrusy hops with grapefruit notes definitely present.

Bottle [341ml]. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a large long-lasting foamy beige head. Good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt and piney hops along with some notes of coffee and chocolate. Flavour’s quite bitter, with lots of piney/resiny hops, along with plenty of roasted malt, some coffe and chocolate. Dry finish. Medium bodied, slightly creamy mouthfeel. Quite good, a nice example of the style.

Bottle at home, thanks to Dany! Pours clear black, with a moderate tan head and spotty/ropey lacing. Nose is soapy spicy hops, lots of grapefruit and light roast. Further nosing is rewarded with notes of fennel/aniseed, and dry chocolate. Flavours are very potent, big and roasty and full, lots of soap and spice, along with grapefruit and round bitterness. Very flavorful and balanced. Maybe the best beer of the night so far!

Pours black with a tall beige head. Strong hop aroma with some chocolate to it. Very strong malty toasted flavor. Coffee and chocolate. Although I do loose the hops in the palate.

Pitch black with a huge frothy off-white head, lasting forever, very good looking beer! Nice mix of aromas, with citrus, pine and bitter chocolate combining nicely. Medium to full body, a good dose of roastiness at first, then a great resinous bitterness coats your palate and ends on a roasted cereal finale. Very nice blend of all the flavors and long aftertaste. Top class Black IPA.

Bouteille 341ml.
