3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Another new beerout of Quebec thanks to the great SlovakSniper. Pours pitch black with a thick foamy tan head. The head isnt going anywhere, I could eat it with a knife and fork.Aroma of roast malt and fresh hops and a bit of cocoa. Taste quite a bit of chocolate a really sharp hop bite. Some coffee as it warms. Nice beer, thanks Pat!

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
CASK: A deep dark clear brown ale with a very thin light mocha head. In aroma, nice floral hops, piney, light nutty malt, smooth acidic notes, very nice. In mouth, smooth coffee note, roasted malts with piney hops, lingering bitterness, served a tad too warm, with light acidity. On tap at Vices et Versa, Feb. 24, 2012.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Appearance: almost pitch black, nice white brownish head with decent lacing. Aroma: Very hoppy upfront, intense hop resin. Roasted malts (coffee) are also present with a hint of chocolate. Flavors are more malty which is unfortunate. There is a decent earthy hops presence though. Overall: Another win from Dunham’s IPA. Excellent for Quebec bottled standards.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: Poured a black color ale with a nice brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of deep roasted malt with notes of pretty powerful hops. Taste is a nice mix between some roasted malt with dry undertones and some black chocolate notes which are well balance against a bitter hoppy finish. Body is quite full with good carbonation. Another winner from this brewer who just keeps on surprising me.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
I was a fan of this brewery before it was bought and renamed and so far have been a little disappointed in the beers of its successor Brasserie Dunham. This beer has changed that, as good as the best beers from Brasseurs et Frères. There is a nice stout malt taste with chocolate and hints of coffee but very well balanced with a hoppy bitterness that would be fine in a good IPA. The mix of the two styles is excellent, it really is the best of both worlds as the bottle claims.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: NOV 16, 2012 My Bottom Line:
Toasted bread crumbs and roasted malts with burnt edges move swiftly into resinous hops and their endless bitterness for a lean-bodied, wealthy Black IPA.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A healthy head of foam laces atop the blackness.
-The hop profile is perfectly leveled; bright enough to show and leaving enough space for the rich malts to shine as well.
-The soft carbonation and slender body make this approachable even though the bitterness is bracing (for a thirst quencher).
-This is probably the best Black IPA a Québécois brewer has bottled so far.
-The hop character is really harmonious with the grain bill.

Pours a deep black color with a medium, creamy, light brown head. Nice aroma of floral, citrusy hops with roasted malt. Good flavor of floral, citrusy hops with roasted malt and a dry and bitter finish. The body is medium with a creamy texture and medium carbonation. Nicely done!

UPDATED: FEB 8, 2012 Absolutely opaque black. Beautiful.
Lots of bite for such a dark ale. It’s quite sharp and bitter but with a nice subtle roundness in the back. Not too drying on the palate.
