2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Noir avec belle mousse, odeur où le houblon domine le chocolat, goût torréfié et amer mais pas assez intense. Palais acre. Je suis déçu.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours black with lots of thick foamy head. Roasted aroma. Big roasted taste, with decent citrus finish. Competent for the style. Above average mouthfeel and drinkability.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours black with a medium beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, bitter chocolate and some smoke. Taste is the snap of hop bitterness mixed with roasted malts and smoke. I would love some more hop flavours.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
500ml bottle - shared by the Quebec posse in Lithuania - thanks!
Rich roasty aroma, some ashiness. Taste full, but really not very hoppy for the style. Dry, again clashing with the style. This is just a very good stout. Certainly wouldn’t have complained if they’d have upped the C hops, the aroma could have done with a boost as the ashiness wasn’t so good.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAY 31, 2012 Bouteille 341ml acheté @ La Barik. Bière noire opaque, belle mousse brune chocolat.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle - 341ml. Pours an opaque black body with a lasting beige frothy head. Well balanced malty/hoppy aroma with roasted coffee and woody hints. Its robust taste is dominated by hoppy flavors. It also carries woody/roasty notes and ends with a long, strong bitter/roasty finish. Not for Coors Light lovers!

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
341 ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.
App.: Deep brown-black with a large mocha head.
Aroma: Nice pine/resin, dank hops with some roasted malt notes of chocolate and coffee, a little eucalyptus, not bad.
Palate: Medium body, moderate effervescence.
Flav.: More of the nice hop flavours – pine/resin mainly with some grapefruit and fruitiness, background levels of dark-roasted malts, a fairly nice example of the style; dry with strong bitterness and a slightly metallic, dark-roasted malt and pine finish.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
341ml bottle from Peluso.
Appearance : Pitch black big creamy brown head. Lots and lots of lacing.
Aroma : Chocolate and coffee with resinous and piny hops. Slightly floral. Light phenolic notes. Great malt.
Taste : Great chocolate and roasted malt with citrusy and piny hops. Finish bring back the rich roasted malts and then some more resinous and piny hops. Fairly dry and not so bitter. Fairly round and malty.
Palate : Carbonation is soft but a bit tickling. Texture is creamy and fairly pillowy.
Overall : Very nice Black IPA. Very nice malt with just enough hops. Great malty and hoppy finish. Very drinkable and still quite rich and tasty for such low abv. Great appearance too. Hard to believe how rich this is with such low abv. Also the hops and the malt are very well balanced which (for my taste) isn’t always the case in Black IPAs. Maybe it’s just me going crazy but wow... this is good.
