[7424-20150730] Tap. Light coffee grinds and roasted grainy chocolate malt aroma. Black body with a medium-lasting foamy light brown head and some thick lacing. Roasted malt grain flavour has a boozy burnt fruity wood base. Full body is fairly boozy. Good but quite big and bold. (7/4/8/3/15) 3.7

341 ml bottle.
Pours jet black color with a huge beige head. Lots of roast and chocolate on the nose, dark malts, some cocoa with subtle coffee notes. Flavor is roasty and dry with dark malts and hops, quite strong carbonation here, some faint ashy notes, cocoa, some coffee roast leading to a sweetish caramel-chocolaty finish. Lots of coffee bitterness on the aftertaste. Quite rich and tasty, the high carbonation disturbs a bit at first, evens out eventually though. Very nice and refined.

Bottle from Saveur-Biere.com - Color: dark black beer with no carbonation and brown small head. Smell: nice chocolate malt and grassy nose. Small hoppy nose. Taste: good chocolate malt taste with high grassy and hoppy taste for a porter :(. Aftertaste: bitterness and grassy finish. Good black IPA but not for me a porter!

Dark brown with foamy beige head. Coffee, chocolate, floral citrus and malt dominate nose. Bitter, mildly stinging in mouth with lasting aftertaste.

Draught @ Vices & Versa, Montréal. Pours cloudy very dark brown with small tan head. Clear aroma of roast, with notes of malt and estery touches. Bitter, roasty flavour, with notes of coffee, malt and hops. Estery hints in the otherwise roasty finish. Well-balanced and very enjoyable.

Bottle, 341mL. Home. Tasted with @erickok. Thank you ! A pitch black beer witha medium beige head ; medium retention. Toasty aroma, red berries (blackberry), citrus, herbs. Medium bitter, light sweet. Medium good body, thin creamy texture, smooth, sweet lasting finish. Overall, a delicious one : fruity, nice texture and bitterness.

A black beer, a head is very big and light brown. Aroma has balanced coffee and roastiness, some vanilla and liquirice, also sweetness of chocolate. Aroma is just great. Taste is powerful, liquirice, dry roastiness, nice bitterness. Overally, the taste isn’t so balanced as the aroma. Medium bodied, the carbonation is almost too much. The stronger body would be also ok. Overally, the great porter, nice flavours with good balance.

Very dark, very creamy. Roasted, black fruits, tea, some freshness. Great texture, barn, full, fatty. (Bottle from Saveur Bière, shared with VDuquerroux)

Canadian robust porter from Québec, with an opaque, jet black robe and dense, moussy, yellow beige, stable head. Aroma is very meaty and very malty with a refined, very subtle sweet touch: I get hints of bitter chocolate bars and fondant, strong espresso, veal stock, leather, charcoal, pipe tobacco, smoked herring, roasted chestnuts, dates, vanilla extract, brownies, orange peel, salmiac, faint banana, even some candied apricot; no off-flavours here, not even phenols. The taste mirrors the aroma perfectly: a refined, subtle suggestion of candied fruit sweetness, candied dates, even a brief whiff of candied cherries, but almost immediately withdrawing and making room for a bittering malt profile, bitter chocolate, cold black coffee, in a soft, slightly ’zingy’ (metallic), slick texture; there is a sourish touch too, but dull and basic. The malts, thickly layered, render more bitterness than sweetness with even a drying smoked accent, an effect reinforced in the finish by drying, peppery, leafy hop bitterness. The basic sourishness lingers a bit, along with a strong coffeeish malt ’roastedness’. Dry, sturdy porter, but as with many modern porters, I do not see any reason not to call this a stout, because that is basically what it is... In any case, a very enjoyable black beer.
