Second beer of my ’Dunham Massey 4’ tasting evening.
Brown 500ml bottle, best before August 2011, some three and half months away when tasted. the beer is bottle conditioned.
Pours a clear light amber, golden colour. The thick white head that was initially there fell away slowly to a thin wispy covering, but did leave some good lacing on the glass.
Very little aroma, as is often the case with UK bitters, some slight hop and malt esters as the beer warmed in the glass, otherwise nothing for my nose to find.
The taste was predominately of hops, but only mildly, this isn’t a hoppy bitter, it just doesn’t have a lot of malt flavours.
Mid-range in the body stakes for a UK bitter, neither weak or strong in anything, just a middle of the road session beer, like so many others being brewed up and down the country.

Quite a good session bitter, tastes like it comes from a widget style can, which is not a bad thing, sometimes you just want an easy drinking bitter

Cask at the Hobgoblin, Reading. Gold with a thin white head; aroma of apples; sharp apple fruitness in the mouth; then a solid, slightly spicy, bitter finish. A reasonable session bitter.

Cask conditioned - gravity dispense - Pigs Ear BF. A golden orange quite striking looking beer with a nice whitish head. The aroma is pretty thin but there is a hint of hop and a twiggy note. The taste is crunchy and hoppy. A lovely body and a perfectly brewed English session beer. Reminded me of some of Acorn’s finest. Clearly those who had it at The Wenlock were short changed.

Cask at The Wenlock, october 07. Clear, light golden color with a small white head that leaves a small rim. Butterscotch aroma. Strong methallic flavor with some grainy malts notes and a bittersweet finnish. Too oxidized. Medium mouthfeel. Notably oxidized, a bit astringent. Out of shape bitter.

UPDATED: DEC 2, 2007 A Mes rate: Cask at the Wenlock Golden brown with a thin white head and lots of lace. Aroma of molluscs and dusty hops. Flavour is so overly metallic it kills everything else almost completely. Slight hops and tea underneath but it is just so metallic I can’t drink it. Pretty awful in all honesty.
