Cask, 3.8% at GBBF08. OK cherry aroma. Very dark brown colour. Good stable creamy light brown head. The flavour has a lot of cherry but is not sweet. I do not really get any chocolate. Sharp and unpleasant cherry pit aftertaste.

2.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Rather unsuccessful experiment with dry cherry extracts – taste more like a perfumed soft drink, than a decent beer. Nice in body appearance, though, with its deep, dark brown colour (third pint hand-pulled at The Bar Nouveau, GBBF 07.08.2008).

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
(Cask at Wenlock Arms, London, 9 Aug 2008) Dark brown colour with frothy, beige head. Fruity nose with notes of dark cherries, chocolate and cocoa. Malty taste with chocolate, dark fruit and cherries all nicely balanced. Slightly bittersweet finish with hints of almonds. Strange beer and I know I normally shouldn’t like this, but still, I do. Nice one.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask at the GBBF 2008. Black colour, dark brown in the highlights, decent tan head. Lovely aroma of cherries on a background of milk chocolate. The cherries are also clearly noticeable in the flavour, but roasted malts, dark chocolate and mild coffee also come up front. Moderate bitterness in the finish. This beer is something out of the ordinary, but I’d still like some more malty sweetness.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Cask at GBBF 08. I mean, you just have to don’t you? When you are presented with a beer title like that, you have to see what it’s like. Dark brown/dark ruby. Thin beige head. Lots of cherry, but chalky cherry. Cough syrup type aroma. Pretty awful, just stewed cherry with a bit of malt. Awful.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cask (GBBF 2008) - Dark brown with red tinges. Sweet cherry aroma which seems artificial. Watery taste with cherry dominating along with some chocolate notes. Drinkable but a bit watery and sweet.

A Mes rate: Cask in the Olde Market Tavern.
Dark red amber with a thin off white head. Sweet as hell aroma with some full on chocolate and cherry syrup. Flavour... erm... Oh My God! This is so medicinal. In fact it’s pretty much 100% kids sweetened penicillin. This should not really be served in a glass, rather it should be administered via a 10ml plastic spoon while making aeroplane noises. (Yes it is ’aeroplane’, I’m English.) Awful cherry syrup. Christ, why am I still drinking it? Lingering, nasty medicine that is extremely sweet and artificial as hell. EPIC FAILAGE!
