Cask Handpump from the Festival Bar at the Cricket Club, Barnton 23/11/2007 Some hop aroma. Small white head. Golden coloured and hoppy with some alcohol present. A little dryness in a crisp and very bitter wheaty finish.

The third beer in my ’Dunham Massey 4’ tasting evening (Apr 2011). Brown 500ml bottle, best before Aug 2011, three and a half moths after it was tasted. The beer was bottle conditioned. The beer poured with a slight haze, might have been too cold (chill haze), or some sediment may have been disturbed during the pouring: anyway the amber body of the beer was a tad cloudy. An off-white head of tight, small bubbles sat on top. The smell and taste fell on the hop side of the fence, the malt contents being happy to play second fiddle in the blend. I normally prefer the maltier bitters, but this one seemed to suit being hoppier. I found the mix a pleasant one, with the 4.2%ABV sitting just about right within the mouthfeel and flavours: in other words, a well balanced UK bitter.

Bottle 500ml - Light amber colour. Aroma is fruity and hoppy. It’s quite gassy. Flavour has a sweet biscuity malty taste and a nice level of hop bitterness in the finish.

Bottle. Exploded out of the bottle.Acidic bitterness dominates.Once it calmed down a reasonable bitter appeared. Bottled properly it might be quite nice.

A Mes rate: Cask at the Crown Inn.
A very attractive looking bitter. A lovely clean golden brown with a really good white head and lace. Excellent condition as always at the crown. Lovely hop driven aroma with really nice malts underneath. Grassy, nutty and balanced. Flavour has all that is great about the aroma but an odd meaty note lets it down a little. Nice bitter finish sorts it out though. Decent beer over all.
