3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
So all of a sudden, to many quebeccers, this is just about the best APA in the world. I must say I still don’t completely get it. A beautiful white foam settles and remains above the pale cloudy gold. The nose one-dimensionally roams with white grapefruit zest and various citrusy nuances as fumey hop resins and alcohol whispers detract from the purity of the ensemble. The malts feel pretty sloppy in mouth, being flabby and just about tasteless, leaving the whole scene to the hops who quickly invade it with agressive citrus/resin that unfold into a brash, acidic bitterness, again brought even further in acidity with the pretty sharp carbonation. Again, alcohol is more than a hint in the closure. A poundable and straightforward pale ale, but one with more bitterness and less depth in the aroma than I’d like and rather dull malts. I like forward hops, but especially when they have a spicy depth and when the yeast ant malt contribute to a beautiful freshness impression. I still appreciate a lot how this goes away from the usual Quebec hoppy beer that is loaded with crystal malts, but in the genre, from a bottle, I’d rather have a more balanced Anchor Liberty.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On draught at Vices et Versa April 23, 2010. Slightly hazy pale gold with a solid white creamy/foamy white head; very thick sticky white lace remnants too. Acidic/leafy bitter aroma with a touch of lemon zest, dry, not sweet or even all that malty - you can definitely detect that 7%. Taste is dry, floral, not as strong alcohol - it’s also maltier than the aroma - I got a nice bit of sweet fresh peach from this - I really liked it, it definitely pushed my buttons. Average body, well-carbonated, lightly acidic/astringent/dry on the tongue with a really long dry bitter (and slightly leafy) finish (4-). I liked it quite a bit indeed - will have this again my next trip to V&V.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
In short: A crisp, dry and grapefruity blonde IPA. Superb session beer.
How: Tap at Vices & Versa, Montreal
The look: cloudy golden yellow body topped by a persistent small off-white head
In long: Nose is citrusy hops (mostly white grapefruit) with some grassy notes. Taste packs just enough of crisp cereals, low sweetness sensation, a tiny bit of honey, a whole lot of citrusy hops (still mostly grapefruity), lemony citric notes. Finish is medium bitter and medium dry. This is exactly my type of drink-by-the-gallons summer IPA. Such a superb session beer and yet there was that dude at the pub who was sitting there not drinking anything. Oh my God!!! Only one explanation!!! It has started!!! Humanoid cyborgs are walking among us and are taking over.

Bottle: Poured a bright yellow color ale with a nice foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of citrus and hoppy notes is quite refreshing and enjoyable. Taste is a nice mix between some floral notes with nice fresh citrus notes and a light hoppy bitter finish. Body is quite full for style with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very well brewed with nice used of citrus hops.

341ml bottle pours a golden orange color with a finger of white head that leaves some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is pine and citrus with hints of caramel and grains. Taste is a bold pine and grapefruit hop bitterness with a milder caramel and malty sweetness. A very bold pale ale which is not for a beginner.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
341 ml. bottle @ Delirium Hoppy Loft. Bottled on 05/2013. Pours hazy golden with a rocky white head. Nose reveals lots of fruity (incl. citrus & orange) USA hops, very nice. Taste is citrus and grapefruits + orange hops, very fruity and juicy, citrus, some malts and touch sweetness upfront, finish is lightly floral with some pine balancing the rest. Really easy to drink could pass a nicely sessionable IPA for me. Really good stuff.
