COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Slightly murky orange in colour with a thin white head, light lacing. The aroma is of pale malts, orange citrus, light sweetness. The flavour is quite bitter, lots of citrus hops, good malt balance. Bitter mouthfeel, medium body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, bitter, hoppy. This is very nice. Excellent hop bite in this one, verging on IPA territory. I want more.

341ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha in Gatineau, Quebec

This baby hits all the right notes for me. Nice colour, nice creamy head, good lacing. Huge grapefruit hop explosion at first whiff. Once that subsides a bit the orange and tropical fruit become more noticeable. Taste is like a jump in the river on a hot, muggy day. It’s pure refreshment. Malt profile is solid though subtle. There’s a nice bit of spice hiding in here somewhere. Finish is all dry pine. This is way too drinkable.

341ml bottle. Hazy golden body, big white fluffy head with excellent retention. Fresh aroma of grapefruit, spices, lots of peppercorn, lemons, oranges and pineapple. Crisp taste of pink grapefruit, herbal hops, decent amount of yeast, coriander, a touch of pine resin, lemon and pineapple juice. Light, flavourful and an excellent example of the style.

Bottle. Slightly hazy golden with a medium off white foamy head with good retention and nice lacing. Aroma is grapefruit, citrus, clementine, apricot, very nice fresh hops smell, pale malt, moderate alcohol. Flavor is grapefruit, tangerine, oily citrusy and a bit of piny hops, pale malt, moderate residual sugar, bitter finish and aftertaste. Medium body with a creamy mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Very well done!

Bottle. Dangerously drinkable hop bomb, with a rarely-tasted-in-Québec grapefruit peel crazily intense taste. Some fruity sour notes seem to emerge from the malt; shy hints of sweetness quickly appear at first but are immediately attacked but the aggressive resinous, citrusy and tongue-bruising hoppiness. Interesting extreme ale, well done, and a great addition to Québec’s beer offering.

UPDATED: MAY 1, 2011 Cloudy golden pour with a thick white head. Solid aroma of citrusy and slightly resinous hops, there’s a mild malt presence too. In the mouth, the hops provide a sturdy citrusy/resinous one-two punch, there’s a shy malt presence and bitterness in the end. The body is medium and oily while the carbonation is medium. At 6.5% abv, this is a bit strong for a pale ale, but it provides a very satisfying hop fix and it’s definitely easy to drink. Great work indeed.

In short: A crisp, dry and grapefruity blonde IPA. Superb session beer.
How: Tap at Vices & Versa, Montreal
The look: cloudy golden yellow body topped by a persistent small off-white head
In long: Nose is citrusy hops (mostly white grapefruit) with some grassy notes. Taste packs just enough of crisp cereals, low sweetness sensation, a tiny bit of honey, a whole lot of citrusy hops (still mostly grapefruity), lemony citric notes. Finish is medium bitter and medium dry. This is exactly my type of drink-by-the-gallons summer IPA. Such a superb session beer and yet there was that dude at the pub who was sitting there not drinking anything. Oh my God!!! Only one explanation!!! It has started!!! Humanoid cyborgs are walking among us and are taking over.
