341 bottle in tulip. Pour is deep black with a quickly disappearing brown head leaving some beautiful lacing. Woody nose with tons of coffee and dark chocolate. A bit of vanilla and a hint of alcohol. Intense taste with a huge, long lingering espresso-like bitterness and some warming alcohol. Silky mouth feel. Great Russian Imperial Stout!

341 ml bottle. Pours black with a resilient beige head. Aroma is slightly roasty, chocolate and hazelnut. Flavor is chocolate, coffee, hazelnut, ash and tobacco. Finish is quite bitter, reminiscent of dark chocolate, dairy-free coffee. Medium to full body, viscous and oily mouthfeel, weak carbonation. Solid, excellent brew.

I’m not sure if this is an older bottle, because I don’t get any of the hop aromas others experienced below. That being said this stuff still smells amazing. Heavy coffee and chocolate, roasted grain and burnt toast, vanilla, molasses. Taste is dark coffee/espresso, cocoa, caramel, burnt toast, with a bitter and boozy finish. It’s heavy and sweet and syrupy, but not at all overwhelming, thanks to the bitter hop/bitter roasted malt finish. Love these guys.

[Bottle (341ml) courtesy of Glouglouburp] Pours black (I think, it was dark where I was) with a large lasting frothy light-brown head. Some lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, leafy hops, coffee, cassis. alcohol and some sugary sweetness. Flavour is malty, hoppy and boozy along with a boozy bitter finish. Syrupy mouthfeel. Good, quite good really, but too boozy.

UPDATED: OCT 11, 2014 Solid black with a good frothy chocolate head. Aroma is liquorice, coffee, maple, raisins, fig, caramel. Creamy mouthfeel, medium-full bodied, great roasty notes on the palate and a bittersweet finish, perhaps just a little to much on the bitter roast side, could use a bit more supporting sweetness and body to balance. Taste is burnt wood, dark chocolate, fig, coffee.

8.5%. Très amère. Autant rôtie que houblon. Érable très subtile, quasi absent. Café corsé. Chocolat.

Bottle 341ml. Pours black with very low light-brown head. Some lacing. Aroma is of chocolate, roasted malt, resin, sugar, very faint smoke. Taste is of chocolate, roasted malt, resin, alcohol, bitterness, sugar. Palate: Full bodied. Sticky. Soft carbonation. Overall: Pretty nice. Tasty. Not cloying, and almost drinkable. Interesting and unorthodox balance for a RIS, with heavy "american (/NZ/etc.)" hopping. Fresh as my bottle was, it could almost pass as an Imperial Black IPA or something...
