341ml bottle poured into snifter. Pours a nice brown/orange with loads of particles. Some hint of foam resides in the middle of the glass, with a average/small ring forming around. Aroma is somewhat malty, with notes of caramel and cereals, but predominantly hoppy (hey, it’s 148 IBUs!). The hoppy aromas are rather piny, I’ll have to say...! I don’t want to interrupt my train of ideas, but I do wish to mention that the 11% abv begin to be felt here...! Hum...oh well it seems I did interrupt it after all. Duh. Well, regarding the alcohol aspect, I thought I would feel it more in the aromas, but instead, and strangely, I feel it a bit more in my head now. On to taste, it’s some rather nice sweetness, well blended with some massive bitterness. Bitterness which actually follows you pretty deep into aftertaste territory. Pretty much...forever. Regarding this aspect, seriously, it’s almost as intense as Stone’s Ruination IPA. Body is rather full, with a slick texture. Carbonation is rather soft. Overall, this is outstanding! Dunham just can’t stop surprising me. I went from completely avoiding them (before they had their new brewer) to totally craving their brews! This is also my first rye brew and although it’s certainly not a standard rye beer, it makes me want to try some others for sure! AAA brew.

Bottle 341ml.
Pours brown/deep amber with low beige head. Some lacing. Aroma is sweet, citrus, tropical fruits, hops. Taste is of sweetness, harsh bitterness, fruits, resin. Cloying. Palate: Full bodied, sticky texture. Overall: Bitterness is to heavy. Lacking balance.
3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 dandeman (214) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - APR 8, 2013
Aroma: Ether and alcohol are coming out strongly at first nose and then with great difficulty I was able to dig some cereal and grain notes.
Appearance: Brown with red glints, very muddy, full of particles, very dense. Beige head is thick, creamy and very long lasting, sticking very well to glass and leaving a very nice lacing.
Taste: Attack is fully cereal and grain with a strong alcohol and bitterness finish. In front of the tongue, we can feel cereal sugars doing a good job followed by hops bitterness sustained by alcohol at the back as finish. Flavors are caramel, cereal, grain, hay, a bit of pepper and grassy notes of cutting hops. A full body, round and syrupy texture with a surprising bitterness compared to a malt liquor. Flavors could gain being more elaborate. A good product that I fairly enjoyed.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 czar (2232) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - APR 5, 2013
pours hazy copper-orange with a decent beige-orange head, little retention. spicy, warming caramel and toffee, strawberry and cherries from the hops (!), some pine needles, boozy, peppery, fruity - also oranges. syrupy sweetness for sure but it’s gladly backed by a pine load, maybe leaving a slightly harsh finish. average to soft carbonation, medium body. interesting and intriguing.

Bottle (341 ml). Clear amber with a small quickly vanishing off-white head and some lacing. Aroma of resinous hops, sweetness notes, citrus/tropical fruits and subtle (hidden by resinous/sweetness) spiciness (probably from the rye). Taste is sweet with resinous hops, some spiciness and moderate to heavy bitterness. Heavy body. Sticky. Lack of balance. Not bad per se, but I didn’t enjoyed it very much... too harsh.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 sseb69 (1260) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 27, 2013
Bouteille 341 ml. 11%.
