My Bottom Line:
This starkly resinous Barley Wine extends its imposing finish into peppery and earthy connotations, dominating a timid malt profile.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A healthy head of foam slims to a veil upon the gorgeous dark mahogany.
-The mouthfeel on this one is sumptuous. Rich but not too heavy, with a perfect alignment of suave residual sugars and effervescence. Perfect bottle conditioning.
-Caramelized malts and yeast contribute some strawberry jam, but nothing else.
-The long resinous, earthy hop bitterness gets tiring halfway down the glass since there isn’t enough variety in the flavor profile.
-The nose is relatively shy, mostly prefacing the hop finale.
-The flavor profile lacks the flavor impact AND the depth I like in this style. Otherwise, this is beautifully executed (appearance and mouthfeel are top notch).
-I didn’t taste this Barley Wine when it came out, so I can’t really comment on how it is evolving.

Bottle; 18 months old.

Bottle [500ml] at Volo. Pours a bubbly, murky deep ruby-brown with a large lasting frothy off-white head. Aroma of fruit, caramel malt, a good amount of hops and some spices. Flavour of fruit and lots of hops first followed by a significant amount of spices, some alcohol, caramel malt and a somewhat long bitter finish. Medium bodied. A slightly odd version of a Barley Wine but I liked it. -- Rated via Beer Buddy.

500 ml bottle purchased at Paluso (Montreal), on March 20, 2011. Mahogany brown, medium head. Aroma of barley sugar, toffee and dark rum. Taste dry of slightly raw barley, sweet alcohol, bitterness of dry alcohol. It’s OK as a barley wine, it gets better with age age I guess, but still!

(Rating #3910)

Bottle - 500ml. Hazy dark brown body with a thick beige foamy head. Strong malty aroma with piney hints. Alcohol is well hidden. Well balanced malty/hoppy taste with strong barley and woody notes. Ends with a robust bittersweet finish. Good stuff.

Bottle: Poured a medium burgundy color ale with a medium size foamy head with OK retention and some lacing. Aroma of green hops and sweet malt notes is interesting. Taste is also more hops oriented then I had expected with quite a lot of green hops notes and some sweet malt. I could see that hops were already fading though still dominant. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol notes. Well brewed thought I prefer my BW English style with less hops presence.

Aroma aromatic, clove , hay , honey , hops. Not too sweet. Green bitterness but not rough in style. Good malt support. 7-
Appearance cloudy brown, quiet dark for Barley wine. Large creamy , beige top. Some lace. 4-
Flavor and Palate : Medium plus bodied. Bitter trough hop character with softer plus sized malty backup. Slightly spicy notes followed paired with hints of alcohol. Finishing woody with mineral bottom. Peppery hop sides.
