eczematic (1198), Sydney, Australia Oct 31, 2008 my sort of beer..... oh god this just makes me weep. lovely herbal/peachy/bready aroma with prominent barnyard. a barnyard on a promontory overlooking a peach orchard - someone is baking herb bread nearby. no sign of 9.5% alcohol - no fusels or solvent in smell at all! thrusting my nose in and breathing deeply and slowly as if i’m going to sing, i smell freshly ground black pepper on top of it. fluffy nougat apricot and peach then a long, broad and green hoppy finish that goes on and on, mingling with black pepper phenols. wahey this is the stuff. for A$15 per 5.6 standard drinks it beats most cheap plonk for bang/buck at the same time as most expensive champagne for quality. Skinnyviking (4142), Copenhagen, Denmark Oct 27, 2008 Bottle. High creamy and long lasting white head. Hazy yellow body. Sweet fruity, apple pear lemon, aroma. Mild and sweet fruity flavor with no indication of the high alcohol percentage. Low carbonation and a sweet short aftertaste. Avengedpoet (325), Mesa, Arizona, USA Oct 25, 2008 Pours a goldenrod yellow with significant haze and an immaculate whipped cream thick head. Aroma is of heavy, fruity yeast and pils malt. Taste is far thicker than I ever thought a saison was capable of being. Much of the thickness seems to be from hop bitterness that sticks on the palate. Not as good as the standard issue Saison Dupont. Juelze (889), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Oct 24, 2008 Pours a hazy gold color with thick fluffy head. Aroma is slightly musty, yeasty, citrus and other mild fruit notes permeate the nose. Taste is spicy, fruity, and musty. Palate is slightly sweet followed by some dryness. Overall, a very well done Saison. Petrucci914 (574), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Oct 24, 2008 Thanks to TheCheeseMan for this one!
Pours a straw-yellow color with a large velvet-pillowy white head. Aroma is spicy, lemon, and yeasty. Taste is about the same, with some floral and citrus characteristics. Good stuff, but I still think the Americans do this style better. Sorry, Euros! temporrari (327), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Oct 12, 2008 Gorgeous. Pours golden with a medium sized white head that has some staying power. Carbonation is perhaps the most visually interesting I’ve ever seen. It dances, moving slowly and elegantly. One of the finest looking beers I can recall. Aroma is yeasty, with a lot of fruity character. It smells great. The flavor, well it comes off as being very clean to me. This is not at all bad. I’ve had many Belgians that just seemed sloppy in their flavor, and just did not feel polished. This seems to be very well designed in it’s structure, and I really enjoyed it. The ABV does not show itself, and I think I could drink this stuff quite often. slimchill (773), Austin, Texas, USA Oct 8, 2008 Bottle. Spicy nose with light fruit notes and orange peel. Earthy spices like thyme and pepper contrast strawberry and cherry aromas. Cloudy pale gold with a big fluffy head that laces nicely. Big alcohol presence, sharp with some astringency and a peppery bite. Buttery notes underneath. A bit muddled and harsh. rederic (1787), montréal, Quebec, Canada Oct 3, 2008 2007 vintage, cloudy honey gold hue, with a thick white head, leaving laces, yeasty, fruity, floral bouquet nose of lavender, rose petal with some spicy, lemon, grapefruit, peach, tangerine hop fruitiness, with some honeyed ppale malt in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, honeyed pale malt, fruity, herbal flower character of lavender, with a faint fruitiness of ripe apples, with a good flowery hop citrusy, of lemon skin, leading towards a warmth, fruity, leafy hop dryness finish.
