Commercial Description:
Biere de Miel is bottle conditioned and contains only water, barley and wheat, honey, hops and yeast. It has a marvelously delicate scent of honey, balnaced by a dry palate, resulting in a beer that is both estery and refreshing.

Disclaimer: Both the normal and the organic (biologique) version.

75cl bottle. Pours an opaque blonde with thick white head. Aroma is of honey and yeast. Taste is loaded with honey and grains. Leaves an aftertaste of malt (barley), lightly sugary and fruity (some orange peels). I applaud the idea of using the biologic concept and local produces.

First time I’ve had this one. I’m certainly not in the habit of searching out honey beers but this was excellent. Grainy, cerealy malt with lovely floral, meadowy touches (the honey?), and mushroomy, mossy, white peppery yeast character. There’s a touch of honey and vanilla to the lean malt flavour mixed with coconut phenols. Light and breezy mouthfeel, with only slight bitterness but very dry. Lovely stuff, really good. And it’s biologique too which eases my middle-class guilt about beer miles (bloody heavy bottles!!) somewhat.

App.: Murky golden poor, thin off-white head, some sediments.

Aromas: Caramel, honey, yeast, floral, orange zest

Palate: Slightly acid, chalky, alochol, slightly sweet, long lasting faint bitterness

Flavors: Zesty, tangy, toffee, floral

Notes: Something a little off palate wise....

750 ml bottle at Monks--7/15/08.....Cloudy dark golden body...fluffy off-white head on pour, then it goes away...a bit stinky at first...but ok... almost perfumy...flavors of light honey, birch beer...as it opens more honey in the taste with some added banana and clove...very light and refreshing, not very carbonated...also has tones of sour and a smokiness to the overall...a nice stickiness left on the lips...rating made possible by Frank and Paul

Bottle at the Shenandoah Beer Throwdown, and I wish I could remember who brought it. Large, white, champagne-like, fizzy head, with big bubbles, orange color. Aroma is champagne, light fruit, some honey. Flavor is spicy, apple?, somewhat sour, tart.

Bottle. Frothy white good mostly deminishing head. Orange colour. Light malty moderate hoppy aroma. Slightly cheasy flavor, moderate bitter. Very fruity. Average finish. Oily palate. Strange but nice.

Bottle, shared by bstill, I think. Thanks Brian! Nose had some definite honey, wheat, yeast, and a bit of butter. Flavor was similar with a lot of yeast and honey. Pretty good, but not my favorite saison flavors.
