This is a beer already brewed in the 1950’s by Dupont Brasseries. As Dupont has extra fermentation capacity now, Olivier has the luxury of crafting some new brews, or re-creating some old specialties. There were two test versions of Monk’s Stout, both at 5.2% abv. One was dry and roasty, and another is said to be a little more rounded. Monk’s Stout is available in 33cl bottles and 20 liter kegs in Belgium.

Beautiful light brown foam. The aroma is toasted malt and coffee and a bit of acidity of indeterminate nature. The taste is different from usual stouts, probably because of its Belgian origin. The taste of brown sugar, bitter dark chocolate (maybe even a little chocolate biscuits), and so it has this slightly fruity impression that really do not belong in a stout, but as many Belgian stouts nevertheless has in the baggage. I simply believe it is due to the traditional Belgian fermentation methods and yeasts. Hop bitterness is something distinctive for type, but the stout is easy to drink and delicately spicy to finish. Excellent stout.

Nice. No big spectacle but well brewed. I am drinking this on a warm summer night and it is nice to have a stout that’s refreshing. There is slight sourness a funky element, some coffee, bitter hops and buned malts.

For a stout, very Belgian. Dark, initially with a coffee coloured head, but not for long. Medium body and carb. Nose starts with sour cherries and finishes with chocolate. Taste also has red and black cherry. It’s beautifully fragrant, but it’s not a stout.

pours a gorgeous black with a light tan head. Not much on the nose but an oaky smoked taste with plum/raisin.
